Coming in to Wat Xieng Thong, one is amazed by the mosaic glass on the temples. The mosaic glass is intricately placed to create patterns and images. The images on the walls tell stories. I had the privilege to watch as a labourer was placing the pieces on the walls one by one. The entrance fee costs 20000kip. I was wearing knee length shorts and was not told to put on a sarong, which you can rent from them for 5000kip. When you enter the main temple, you will need to present your ticket to be verified. What struck me most about this compound is the expanse of it, and the relic room. The huge palaquin with the Naga heads was quite interesting. You can spend about 30 minutes here to appreciate one of the oldest temples here. Do note that there are three entrances here, and you can access it from the river side as well.

During our bikeride trough the main street in the centre of Luang Prabang, where also the nightmarket is, we stopped at this tempel complex. Together with the temple near the national museum is this the most beautiful temple of Luang Prabang. Absolutely worth visiting, even you have a to buy a (cheap) ticket to enter the temple.

clearly the temple itself may be worth a trip, however the tourist rip off is obvious and an excellent shame. Despite the wife of mine, who's a thai Buddhist dressing very appropriately they nevertheless told her to purchase a shoulder covering, which obviously was an additional way to part a person with but more money. I've gone to perhaps thousands of temples including this a several years never and ago changed an entrance fee..a terrific pity for this holy place to be utilized in such a fashion.

Beautiful craftsmanship throughout this temple complex in the middle of busy Luang Prabang. Well worth a visit.

Centrally located. This is one of the more popular temples in LP. From memory it was also one of the newer ones.
