“Interesting but no wow factor”
Reviewed May 8, 2013

We visited Wat Xieng Thong when in LP in March and were expecting a lot more based on the reviews on Tripadvisor. The Wat is small, very run down and unlike other Wats we have seen in over 6 months of travelling south east Asia, this Wat was a big let down. There are no gardens to speak of, only a handful of buildings and all are in need of some serious tlc. We appreciate it is obviously very old and there was restoration work ongoing during our visit which was interesting to watch, however even with a fresh coat of paint, we still can't see it having a wow factor.

Must see in LP. Not the biggest wat but what is here is exquisite. Lots to photograph and is really picture perfect.

“A golden temple for a golden new year”
Reviewed May 1, 2013

Was blessed to spend Phi Mai Laos - the Laos new year - and stay within steps of this magnificent Wat. Beautiful wooden and golden hues, murals, Buddha statues imparting blessings. Lao traditional wooden architecture. Feel like you've stepped into the world of Buddha, obtaining blessings beneath the Bohdi tree. The tree of life is intricately depicted in this legendary "tree" monastery.

“A must-see temple”
Reviewed April 26, 2013

Be sure to visit this temple in the early morning. You can watch the procession of monks going into the monastery - and then watch the sun rise over the temple and the play of light on the gilded doors and roof tops.

“So much going on”
Reviewed April 26, 2013

The great thing about visiting this temple is that it's heaving with locals doing their own thing and they don't seem to worry about having us tourists mooching around. The buildings are fab and everyone is extremely friendly. So much nicer than some of the stuffy temples in other places.
