Owner description: Laos' most enchanting temple was built in 1560.

So well, there's beautiful mosaic, but that's all ! 20 000 Kips for 1 temple and a few mosaic I was a bit disappointed. The place is very small (3 building max). So Maybe it's because there was renovation when I was there, but still, I've been visiting many temple in Thailand and I can't rate more than 3 stars for this one.

Visited February 2013.

One of the many interesting wats in this World Heritage city. I can't see why it's rated #1 by all the guides, unless they just copy each other? Definitely worth a visit if you're in LP, along with about 20 other wats

Having seen a lot of Wats in Thailand we were starting to suffer from Wattage overexposure. This temple was beautiful and refreshingly different as well as historically significant. A delight.

My wife and I are temple junkies: the more glitzy and ornate the buildings the more we like them. The bigger the golden Buddha statues the better. So we both loved Wat Xieng Thong, which is at the far end of the peninsula in Luang Prabang. You can walk there along the busy road that runs alongside the Mekong River or there's a much quieter walk beside the Nam Kang River. There are many beautiful buildings at Wat Xieng Thong: the biggest of the temples is currently undergoing extensive restoration, and we had an opportunity to watch a monk retouching some of the gold trim on the woodwork on the outside of the building, which felt like a bonus. The walls of the large temple, both inside and out, are covered in beautiful mosaics, all of which look as if they have been restored in the recent past. There was a very large golden buddha statue and literally dozens of medium-sized golden buddha statues dressed with orange cloth sashes across their shoulders in the large temple. My wife and I were in heaven (that's a Buddhist heaven!)

if you're staying in town (on the peninsula) make sure you walk to this temple as theres some lovely scenary along the way. The temple was beautiful, lots of mosiacs along the walls and even monks doing repairs on one side.
