Talking about the Royal Palace, I am rather talking about the whole site, especially the beautiful gardens with its views up Phousi and the wonderful temple like building that houses the 'prabang', situated in the night market corner.
At the moment - until February 16, 2014 - there is an interesting exhibition in the back of the museum facing the Mekong. The exhibition shows a lot of photos and a few buddha statues all concerning 'cultural preservation projects in Laos'. It is free! (in contrast to the museum)
Standing in front of the building, walk around to the left.
Also have a look at the last king's cars and carriages.
