My travel companion and I stayed at the Villa Santi Hotel (the hotel in town, not the resort outside of town) in October 2012. We were on the last 1/3 of our travels throughout SE Asia and after the bustle of Vietnam I was looking forward to a quieter time in Laos. The hotel is very beautiful with a colonial style feel that put both of us in a relaxed mood right away. Its location right in Luang Prabang is superb, everything interesting, fun and wonderful is within walking distance. The lobby area is so nice, like you are walking into a French colonial house (yet open to the outside air), the courtyard is very peaceful with the fountain. Upstairs is the restaurant, where we took our breakfast everyday. Wow what a breakfast!!!! Anything from the West and the East you could want to eat, beautifully presented. All of the staff, both in the restaurant and lobby area are impeccable, respectful and like many people we met very nice in their reserved manner. Our room was located in the annex across the street (I think most of the guest rooms are there). It was so nice, comfortable, clean and A/C worked a treat (it was VERY hot and humid this time of year). It was very light (I hate dark hotel rooms), the bathroom was done very nicely (good shower!!). The bed was extremely comfortable the linens and duvet snuggly. The housekeeping was very nicely done, super clean and very nice to return to a pleasant, fresh room after a long day hiking or walking or elephant riding. There are also many nice restaurants and coffee places either across the street or along the main street. Luang Prabang also has a wonderful night market along the main street that is a must do!!! A walk along the Nam Khan or Mekong rivers is worthwhile. Of course all the Wats you must see. All in all just a terrific experience I would return to Luang Prabang and Laos again!!!

We stay with my family for three days at Villa Santi Resort just outside of town what a great place there are beautiful gardens , good relaxing rooms, excellent breakfast and restaurant and the location is peaceful and quiet. Its perfect if you are travelling with kids as they can play in the huge grounds and use the pool. The hotel provides a songtaew to go to the city centre every hour or so and its a nice ride so being not in the centre was not a problem for us. The staff were very helpful and we had a very pleasant stay. Ideal for families.

Room tip: All the rooms looked good for what we could see we had a great view of the gardens

The location is absolutely great, it is along the main street yet away from the market so it is quiet but easy to walk to the rivers, temples and restaurants. Highly recommend Tamnak Lao restaurant across the street.

The colonial building was a former Princess's residence, nice open court yard and a small pool in the middle with rooms on both sides. We had the King bed suite, the furnishing is beautiful, feel like we stepped back in time. A little chandelier over the sitting area and four legged bath tub are all nice touches.

The front desk staff speaks very good English and always greeted everyone with smiles.

Buffet breakfast was good, a lot of choices both western and oriental style, an omelette/egg station and fresh fruits.

The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars is because I think it is expensive, but then you will find that it is true everywhere in Laos, everything is surprisingly expensive for a poor country.

My wife and I began our visit to south east asia in Laos. We could not have been more pleased with our first hotel. The location was excellent, the staff was attentive and the food was well prepared and served with gracious attention to detail. The location of the hotel was perfect for shopping, fine restaurants and cultural visits. This hotel has set a high standard that we hope will be maintained during the next three weeks. When I was departing the hotel I left my iphone charging in the room. One of the cleaning women found me and gave it to me. This was simply a reflection of the level of service delivered.

Room tip: They upgraded our room since a higher level was available. The two rooms I viewed were both fine.

There is apparently also a sister hotel of the same name in town, but we stayed in the one that is a 20 minute drive down the road. It is truly beautiful. The rooms are nicely laid out, with mosquito nets of the beds (though we didn't see any bugs at all), lovely grounds with swimming pool (with bar and staff that came around taking your order and providing salty nuts with lemon grass) and a small but good gym. There is also a spa and the restaurant food - western and asian - is delicious.
