“great service, nice rooms”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 26, 2012

Good food at the 2nd floor restaurant, nice staff and nicely furnished, clean rooms. We even had a little problem with the electricity in our building/room and they moved us to the Champa suite which as really nice, overlooking a cool inner garden and pool with an Elephant Head fountain. Great, convenient location. Nothing bad to say really.

Room Tip: The suites are nice, but basic rooms are good too.

We had wonderful time here. Lovely rooms (I suggest to get a room in the main building), and nice restaurant that is used for breakfast. If you have breakfast early in the morning, you can look alms every morning. I went out every morning, bought things from street vendor and did alms every morning of the stay. The location is excellent, right in the town and can walk everywhere on foot. I'd like to revisit Luang Prabang, and I will definitely stay in here.

This is a great place to stay if you want to pay a little extra, as there are other small hotels and guest houses in L P that are cheaper. Try to get upgraded to a 'royal' suite, if you can, as it is by the pool...and the pool is one really good reason to stay here. It provided welcome relief from the hot and humid July weather.

Luang Prabang is a UNESCO world heritage site. So is the Villa Santi Hotel, which was once a royal mansion, restored into a hotel. In Luang Prabang, "villa" is over-used to describe almost every hotel that is small-scale. Some are better called "guest house" instead of villa. At least Villa Santi is a real villa in the sense of once being a mansion with garden or compound. Many honeymoon couples like to stay here because of this former glory, and because the location is central, close to many restaurants. During peak seasons in late November to Feb, the hotel is fully booked because there are not many rooms here. Because this a heritage hotel, the rooms smelled of old wood and even somewhat musty. The management should burn aroma oil in all the rooms to get rid of the smell. Wi-fi inside the room runs intermittently, and this happens all over Laos, where internet connection is generally slow. The rooms used to have individual box-airconditioners (window units), now there are new blowers. However, electricity tripped every half hour throughout the night, and almost every night. Bed mattresses and pillows need to be replaced as both of us had sore backs and necks every morning. Indeed, sleep was interrupted by poor beds and electrical shut-downs. Breakfast is all-right, but hardly any of the hotel guests ate at the restaurant for lunch or dinner because the menu was unimaginative and looked expensive. Restaurants nearby did better business than this hotel's restaurant.

We did take a free shuttle to the resort (sister property of the hotel) to enjoy the rustic setting and a massage. Both of us thought the massage was not up to standard: too soft, too weak as if there wasn't any massage at all, and somewhat pricey. We had lunch at the resort, which was fine, but when we were done with massage and lunch, we were told there was no return shuttle, that we had to order and pay for public transport to return to the Villa Santi hotel). Not good here! We were misled to think there was regular shuttle service back and forth.

Overall, I would suggest to those who plan to stay at Villa Santi: one night will do, then move on to hotels facing the Mekong river. And for single people, you might want to avoid staying here because the old place may seem creepy or haunted to you! What with all those old wood, musty smell and electrical outages, you'll be scared to think you're sleeping next to the ghost of royal blood hated by ordinary Laotian people!

Its a nice, peaceful place with good service, and a decent breakfast. The staff were very helpful in giving information. And the hotel its self it centrally located. It also has a nice plunge pool to relax in. This was welcoming given that its quite hot and humid in the area.

Our room was not located in the main building, but it was still nice. There's free wifi as well.

The staff were really helpful at Villa Santi Hotel as we needed to replace a pair of glasses. Helped us find the only optometrist in Luang Prabang, rang them, and drove us to their shop. Great service! Our room was not in the main building, but a short walk up a side street. Because of this we had to walk to the main buliding for meals or to swim in the pool. Our room was very clean and well laid out,and the bed was good to sleep on. The Hotel and surrounding gardens were lovely, and breakfast was beautiful sitting on the balcony.A great place to stay.

Spent several nights here in March 2012. Upon check in we were upgraded to the Royal Suite which was huge and tastefully decorated in traditional Lao furnishings. One really good thing is the location. The Monk morning alms ceremony take place right outside of the hotel and the main road with bars and shops commences outside of the hotel. Just a two minute walk from the night market. The restaurant with balcony served a great breakfast. The whole of Luang Prabang is very chilled and relaxed and this hotel is no differant with very friendly and helpful staff.
Would highly recommend
