We just happened upon this brand new little guest house and chose to stay because they offered us the cheapest rates (100,000 a night). We ended up staying nine nights total and our stay was pleasant over all. The staff was very nice but they spoke very little English and sometimes communication with them was very difficult. On the night the restaurant across the street had a loud party, the owner moved us to the Halolao villa a block down the street, and let us spend the night there for free. This was extremely nice of them and above and beyond what they had to do for us, we thought.
The rooms are large and spacious and super clean. They are sparse, our room only had a bed and two chairs, but the king sized bed and very comfy mattress was a treat in lao, and the white sheets and down duvet were very cozy. With a ceiling fan and air-con, you dont need much else.
Only four rooms total in the establishment, all located upstairs with a shared bathroom. Because this place is brand new we were often the only customers and it was the slow season.
Also, the location at the end of the peninsula is great. It is more peaceful than the center of town but a quick walk to everything and still there are nice restaurants and cafes all around. Also, there are more wats in this area, so more encounters with monks are likely. However, the noise from the monk's gongs every morning at 530 woke me up every time.
One big downside to this place was the noise inside the house. When no one was there, it was very quiet and peaceful. But the house is built with very thin walls and floor and i could hear every conversation the staff had downstairs or anyone had in the common area upstairs. Everything echoed and boisterous conversations among guests and staff got very noisy at times.
Overall we had a good experience and would recommend this place for travelers on a budget.
The hotel is located right on the main road and the Lao New Year elephant parade went right by our window!
The one major flaw was they never cleaned our room in the 9 nine days we stayed there! The room got very dirty to say the least and i had to shake out the sheets and ask for new towels myself.
