“so inspiring”

Luang Prabang Library
Attraction details

Its so nice to see students really wanting to learn. The people who go there to learn have really busy days with lessons and everything and they still make time to come to the library to learn. Its a nice place to go if you want to give a bit back to luang prabang during your holiday. If you have an hour or two spare then its a really worthwhile thing to do.

Talking to the monks at the library in the afternoon was one of the highlights of our trip. The monks visit the library to study English, but chatting to them is a great way to learn more about life in Laos.

If you have time while visiting Luang Prabang it is really worth a visit to meet some locals. You can also donate books which will get taken out to the villages for children to read.

This is a great place to meet locals who want to connect with you and practice English, but here's the thing: There is a mania to talk with monks, while the young women sit at the table silently. There is so much more opportunity here for men. In fact, many become novices with no intention of becoming monks, but just to get an education - and this option is not available to girls based on sexism. The part line is. "Unlike boys, girls need to go out and have fun so can't live in monasteries." We heard this line verbatum more than once. Really. So everyone is fluttering around the novices, and the girls are ignored. Men, of course don't be creepy here. We are trying to help our little sisters out.

Interresting place, but for young Monks more then for travellers, some books, some photographies, but the post office was more interresting place then this Library.
