Location in beautiful gardens on the banks of the Mekong.
The tour was interesting and items in the shop are amazing (if pricey)

“Not sure it deserves the trip out there”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 15, 2014 via mobile

Visited for the interesting menu displayed on the shop in town, but was disappointed with the food. It sounded better than it tasted. Perhaps we expected too much. Granted it has a lovely location, but to us it was just average standard. The staff are laid back, but a bit too casual to my mind and a tad intrusive. Would not be in a hurry to return to the cafe.

Im sorry to hear you didn't enjoy your experience here. We take reviews like this very seriously, especially as you can see most of our reviews for our cafe our 5* and we have to work very hard to maintain this standard. We were all surprised by this review and having discussed it, we then went to look at your other reviews- you also gave bad reviews to Cafe Toui, Tangor and Rosella which are some of our favourite restaurants in town You also say our staff are laid back, too casual and yet at the same time too intrusive which constructively I don't know what to make of.

You are of course entitled to your opinion and we respect that and would act immediately to fix anything that could be improved but in this case I feel the review is harsh and not in line with the vast majority of our other customers experiences here- one of our recent reviews said the food at our cafe was the best they'd had in Asia. Even if you don't eat here, the weaving centre and beautiful setting are absolutely worth the journey alone in my biased opinion.

“Tranquil respite away from the crowds”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 14, 2014

I enjoyed a pot of silkworm poo tea at the cafe (had to try it-- it doesn't taste like poo!) while taking in the spectacular view of the Mekong river. Unfortunately, we only had time for a tour and a visit to the shop, but everyone was extremely warm, friendly, and eager to help. Got some beautiful, soft, silk scarves at the shop; it's great to know that everything there is handmade in Lao and not at some factory in another country. We also got to watch a woman working on some batik; apparently, she is one of the last of her trade, so we felt very lucky to see her in action. Definitely want to return and spend at least a full day there.

“Tranquility in a Laos silk cocoon”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 14, 2014

On my last trip to Luang Prabang I spent several days weaving at Ok Pop Tok. Every day I was treated to the most delicious meal and the friendliest service I have ever experienced. Of course I had to bring my husband along so he could see what a delightful place Silk Road Cafe is. We were both so impressed with the tasty Laos food and the calm and soothing atmosphere of the Restaurant. The Laos food is truly delicious, fresh and tasty and the atmosphere with the Mekong (Nam Kong) so close was magic.
I really can't wait for my next visit. The staff are so helpful and friendly. They really made every effort for us to enjoy our meal without being intrusive. This is an experience which no-one should miss.

Great break from sightseeing - spent the day dyeing silk and weaving. Fabulous lunch. This is a place I want to go back to. Very friendly staff. The weavers are so skilled. Thank you for an awesome time!
