We did the Buddha Cave tour. It was actually really expensive for what it was and they justify the price by telling you that they will visit authentic villages on the way which they don't because they just take you too touristy fake villages where they try and sell you things. They also provide lunch but it was a cheap set menu and everyone else around us was eating really lovely local food. To be honest, just hire a boat independently or find a group and hire a boat to make the trip, there are loads of long boats looking for business. It will be much faster and cheaper. Also if you want an authentic village experience just catch the ferry over the river from LP, its only 3000 Kip each and so much more interesting than any of the villages on the tour. You can also visit all the Wats along the river overlooking Luang Prabang. We kicked ourselves for falling in to another tourist trap.
