“Pleasant stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 7, 2013

I stayed with my friend at this guesthouse for 5 nights, originally planned for two nights only. But Luang Prabang is such a city that makes you so let-loose, and the owner Mr kamphone is so easy and friendly, there are also a lot of outddor sitting area, all makes us feel like home, we decided to stay longer. They offer free use of bike, he encouraged us to use the bike and see the city ( I am not a good bicycle rider unfortunately.) Mr Kamphone is generous to offer free airport pickup or drive us to bus terminal upon departure. Even though the guesthouse is located across the river and we had to trek across the bamboo bridge every evening from the city centre, it adds a bit adventure and fun to our stay. But bill in an extra 5,000 kips to use the bamboo bridge every day, it pays to the repairs and maintenance of the bridge. You can also find the repairer either sitting at the other end taking bridge fee or doing a bit of knots and repairs here and there. Room is fine, but would recommend taking away the big armchair making more room space to move around. Hot water shower is just OK, I guess it's the general problem with the water heater system in Laos. All in all, we enjoyed the stay there.

We stayed here over Christmas for 4 nights and we agree with the very thorough review below. The room was very clean and comfortable and the building itself light and airy. A good breakfast was served in the open air dining space which was a lovely way to start our days (remember to order the very nice noodle soup the night before if you want it for breakfast). What made this place extra special to us were the extras such as free bicycle rental, water provided in room daily, and the ever helpful owner.

On our last day we explained that we would be leaving early to get a boat and asked whether this would be a problem for breakfast and whether a tuk tuk could be arranged. Mr Khampone not only dropped us off at the boat landing himself but gave us a packed breakfast / lunch of a pork baguette (still hot) with sauce and orange juice to make up for the breakfast we would be missing. This was much appreciated.

Being on the other side of the river is not an issue at all in the dry season as it is still only a 5 minute stroll, via the bamboo bridge, to the town centre. A plus point is also that you pass the very Dyen Sabai restaurant en route.

We would definitely stay here again.

My wife and I stayed at Phone Praseuth for 7 days - our original plan was 3 or 4 days but we loved the city and the Guesthouse so much that we extended our stay.

The rooms were very clean and maintained every day by the staff. Breakfast was great, a choice of 4 different options. The free bicycles provided are a nice bonus, we used them quite a bit to explore the local area. 2 free bottles of water each day in the fridge, and a free pickup from the airport were bonuses!

I would highly recommend staying here. The staff will all make you feel at home, and the Guesthouse has a nice quiet feel to it. They went out of their way to make Christmas special for us during our stay!

The Wifi was fast enough for Skype/FaceTime, although it doesn't reach to every room but can be used in the common spaces. The location is across the river from the main town centre which can be accessed by a nice 5-10 minute walk across the bamboo bridge (cost of 5000kip - 60 cents - per day per person to cross, free after 6pm). Or on bikes you could be in the town centre after a 10 minute ride over the old bridge.

There is a restaurant just before the bamboo bridge that has Lao Fondue - definitely recommended!! It's not as cheap as eating in the night market (veggie buffet for 10,000 kip!!) but quite reasonable and worth it.

Also, if you are interested, we volunteered a few times at Big Brother Mouse - a great initiative where they have drop-in English sessions a couple times a day. We met many great young locals wanting to improve their English and even worked with a few young Monks - our favourite experience in Luang Prabang.

In summary, if the price fits your budget, stay at Phone Praseuth.. A nice, clean, relaxed place to be!

The owner, Mr K, is a wonderful, funny man. They have free airport pick up, good bicycles to rent for free and the room we stayed in was clean, quiet and well appointed. Breakfast was good, not great, but the baguettes were excellent. The guesthouse is out of town (a 5 minute walk over the bamboo bridge, or a 10 minute bike ride) but that was a good thing for us. Would highly recommend, and be happy to stay there again.

We stayed in Phone Praseuth Guesthouse in November and we had a great stay there! Normally I do not write reviews but for Phone Praseuth I would like to make an exception. The guesthouse is very modern and clean. The rooms are nicely decorated and have a shower with hot water! Every morning you are welcomed with a good breakfast with fresh fruit. The guesthouse is situated across the river which was absolutely no problem for us. You can cross the river and reach the city centre with the bamboo bridge (only about a 5 minutes walk from the guesthouse). You can also use the bicycles from the guesthouse, which is a lovely way to explore Luang Prabang. Last but not least, the owner is a very friendly man who makes you feel very welcome in Luang Prabang and his guesthouse. So overall, I would highly recommend a stay in this guesthouse, great value and great service.

I stayed at Phone Praseuth for four nights during a longer trip across southeast Asia. Mr. Kim is very nice and speaks very good English. The guesthouse is located across the river from the main part of Luang Prabang. This is nice as it makes the guesthouse feel away from the noise and chaos. The downside is you have to trek across a bamboo bridge to get to town (which can be treacherous at night), or loop around to the Old Bridge a decent bike ride away. Definitely recommend using a bike to get around town. Mr. Kim can arrange tours and take care of other arrangements. My room was very nice, clean, quiet and comfortable. The guesthouse could use additional staff only because sometimes it was hard to find someone to ask a question. Otherwise, my stay was wonderful and I would recommend this guesthouse to anyone who wants to enjoy Luang Prabang away from the backpacker crowd.

Room Tip: Corner rooms will be quieter, except for the roosters. : )

My boyfriend and I stayed at Phone Praseuth during our 5 days in Luang Prabang. We were both very pleased with the rooms and loved the affordable price. We booked through agoda and it included breakfast which was always basic but very delicious. The owners and employees of this guesthouse worked hard to make our stay enjoyable! There was free wifi in lounging areas and the guesthouse itself was far enough away from town for a nice quiet getaway after busy days exploring or for winding down after a busy evening. The guesthouse however had easy and quick access of only about a 5 minute bike ride or 15 min walk to town. Bikes were free to use which were great and handy! There is also a boat down the path/stairs to the right of the white temple nearby for free that crosses the river into town if you prefer to walk. Our rooms were clean and even got our laundry washed at a low cost. We were very pleased with our stay and would recommend it to others :)
