Being an observer is nothing like being a participant. This farm takes you from behind the window, walks you through the door and puts you into a rice farmer's life. Growing a crop of rice is very labor intensive. It takes just about every muscle in your body at one time or another. You will experience a full cycle of growing a rice crop in one long morning. A truly amazing experience!

We were 4 adults and 4 children between 4-8 years old, and everyone loved this! At about 8am, they picked us up in a covered pick-up truck/tuk-tuk at our hotel. The staff was super enthusiastic and the kids loved getting muddy, pushing the plow behind Susan, their water buffalo, and planting rice. Everyone really enjoyed exploring the vegetable farm as well. We had a bunch of rice snacks and then returned at about 1pm. It was a fantastic day that was the highlight of our trip.
The group that runs this farm is a co-operative of 7 families. They started as an organic vegetable farm and sold (and still sell) their vegetables to the Amantanka Hotel. When Aman guests asked to see the farm, they were surprised and then decided nothing is more Lao than sticky rice and started the rice farm experience 2 years ago.

Everyone in the family enjoyed this outing. We all learned so much from the excellent hosts; even my 8 year old son is still talking about how much fun he had. I'm impressed with how "hands on" it was (indeed at one point we were knee deep in mud). This is an experience we will remember for a long time.

For our family with a 4 and 6 year old, this was a great trip to be a kid and get muddy in the rice fields. Lee, the guide is a fantastic presenter with lots of energy and passion for the farm. Lots of things to do for the kids at every stage of the process.

We heard about it here in trip advisor, and decided: why not?. It was the most amazing experience in Luang Prabang. Very diferent from any other activities that tourist agencies offer.
I definetly recomend it! So much fun!
