Really, really loved this hotel. We had a Grand Suite with private plunge pool which was absolutely perfect as it was so hot outside, we had it really cold and used it several times a day. All of the staff here are so friendly and go out of their way to make your stay a good one. The restaurant 'Mekong on the River' is really good for breakfast and for dinner with a very pretty setting. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Can recommend the Grans Suite with plunge pool - especially when very hot outside.

Dear Customer,

Sabaidee Pi Mai! Happy Lao New Year and warm greetings from Xiengthong Palace!

Thank you for having taken the time to share your opinions with the online community. Indeed our Grand Suites, six in total, are equipped with a plunge jacuzzi pool, which can be heated in winter or totally refreshing when cool in summer.

Thank you as well for your comments about our team members, and we look forward to having the chance of saying "welcome back!" to you in the future.

Best regards,

Guillermo

Really lovely hotel with great service - especially at breakfast with the super friendly sous-chef taking care of you with lots of personal touches.
Perfect location in the centre - walking distance to the main attractions and along the river.
I had a massage which was good but nothing special.
Only downside was our indoor pool took 7 hours to heat - would have been good to know in advance.
Highly recommend it!

I want to reiterate the previous lovely, and in my opinion, very accurate reviews of Xiengthong Palace. As others have noted, this is probably the best hotel in Luang Prabang.

THE LOCATION: The location is amazing being (a) next to Wat Xieng Thong, (b) along the banks of the Mekong, (c) actually ON the peninsula and even more accurately the beautiful and more peaceful end of the peninsula without all of the backpackers, (d) in a perfect spot to discretely observe or participate in the morning alms giving adjacent to the hotel property where one can avoid mingling with throngs of flash photographers, and (e) within a short walk of almost everything you will want to see and do in Luang Prabang.
THE PROPERTY: The hotel grounds are immaculate and most rooms offer views of either the beautiful hotel gardens or the Mekong. The word “oasis” is very appropriate. Many of the buildings are actually new, but they were built to match the older structures with thick white walls and beautiful teak exterior shutters. The quality of the construction is superb ---no creaky floors here. There are approximately 10 two story structures. The interiors are simple and classic. Our bathroom was very large with a soaking tub and separate shower. We occupied the two “Lotus Suite” rooms. My husband and I were in the top floor (the balcony offers a view of the Mekong off to the left and through trees) and our three well-behaved children (6, 10 & 12) were in the lower suite. A note on children, we were not the only family at the hotel, but this is a decidedly grown up place. All five of us were made to feel very, very welcome, but adults should not be concerned that this is a “kids” hotel in spite of the fact that children are mentioned in more than one recent review.
THE FOOD: The food was very good and the restaurant setting, just across the street from the Mekong, is beautiful both during the day and lit with lanterns in the evening. We prefer sitting outdoors but there is ample inside seating as well. We had breakfast each morning (included in our rate) which consisted of both western (omelets, fresh bread, croissants, cold cereal, roasted potatoes, meats and cheeses, etc.) and local (fresh fruit, river weed with chili sauce, Lao rice soup, salad with a local dressing, homemade local sausages, seasoned rice or noodles, etc.) options all of which were delicious. We loved the watermelon jam and our children couldn’t get enough of the sinful hot chocolate. Depending on occupancy each morning, breakfast may be made to order or a buffet. Both were excellent. We had one dinner as well which was also lovely. The chef and sous chef are both charming and the rest of the restaurant staff was both warm and professional.
THE STAFF: In fact, we cannot say enough nice things about the hotel staff. My first contact with an actual hotel employee (as opposed the the office in Vietnam that handles the initial booking) was via email with the Room Division Manager, Chanmala. She and I traded numerous emails in advance of our arrival. She is helpful, knowledgeable and responsive, and I was so pleased to meet her in person. Much has been written about the hotel’s new Manager, Guillermo. Believe what you have read. He has an obvious love of the town and the property. He is approachable, witty and a wealth of information. The rest of the staff was uniformly wonderful from housekeeping to groundskeepers to the women in the spa to the front desk staff who made it a point to learn our names and those of our three children.
VALUE: We spent 6 nights at the hotel, and because of the length or our stay were offered a package including daily breakfast, massages, bottle of wine, fruit basket, free wifi and roundtrip airport transfers. The nightly rate, particularly with these additions, was an amazing value.

Finally, don’t be concerned about reading all of these glowing reviews and finding that you do not see any references to this hotel in even the most recent guidebook or in any other resources. It has been opened for just a little more than a year. I am confident that Xiengthong Palace will attract future attention from sources other than Tripadvisor. For now, believe your fellow travelers. You will not be disappointed.

Sabaidee! Warm greetings from Xiengthong Palace in sunny Luang Prabang!

I would like to thank you for having shared your extensive review with our future travellers through TripAdvisor, and also for having taken the time to write such detailed comments. I particularly thank you as well for your comments about our team members, which I will share with them as your feedback is a great source of motivation for all.

Let me add to your reference to our breakfast that almost all products are homemade, including the Lao sausages, the mentioned melon jam, the Lao sweets, croissants, all breads, etc... We are all delighted to learn you enjoyed our restaurant and also the other facilities of the hotel.

We look forward to welcome you and your family in a future visit to South East Asia and Luang Prabang!

Best regards,

The Hotel is ideally situated on the Banks of Mekong river & beside a Buddhist Monastery which allows easy early morning viewing of the daily parade of monk alms ritual , a truly wonderful sight !
The ex Royal Palace reflects both elegance and luxury amid the tranquillity that is Luang Prabang.
The restaurant offers a good selection , including Laotian dishes & the tamarind soup is a must .
The ever friendly staff adds to the enjoyment & restful atmosphere that seems the hall mark of Xienthong Palace .

For some reason I had trouble finding the exact location of this hotel in the internet maps. For those who have the same problem it's right next to the Wat Xiengthong which is marked in Google maps.
We spent 3 days in LP. The Xiengthong Palace stands head and shoulders above the other accommodations that we saw. Most are "guest houses" anyway, comparable to bed-and-breakfasts elsewhere. As for "real" hotels, we saw the #1 ranked and although it made a good impression from the outside in my opinion it doesn't compare to the Xiengthong Palace. We didn't see the Orient Express place so there a have to refrain from an opinion whether it's worth twice the money.
Our room was actually a two-story vacation apartment with living room and private jacuzzi downstairs and bed room/bath upstairs. We didn't expect it and it was an unbelievable surprise.
The general manager Guillermo involved himself in many details of the guest service which obviously improved our experience. In general, the whole staff from the front desk to the kitchen and restaurant tried very hard to make our stay more enjoyable. In particular the front desk helped us tremendously in organizing our daily sightseeing plans. It was very much appreciated. Thank you!
We were able to take advantage of a number of what I think were promotional offers (massage, dinner) which added even more enjoyment to our stay.
The Xiengthong Palace was a highlight of our Indochina trip.
