“"Outstanding"”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 8, 2013

Couldn't be more beautiful and quiet place to stay in Luang Prabang. Excellent location, 5 minutes walking from the center of the old town and facing the Mekong river. Very friendly staff. High quality accommodation in a well-preserved set of buildings with restrained decoration.
It's the best choice to stay in Luang Prabang.

Room Tip: Suites have nice balcony

We stayed 3 nights 2 adults and 4 children. Great hotel, clean, well kept and personnel with excellent attitude. Rooms are well equipped, very new and clean. Personnel is extremely nice and will try to do everything to help you, despite sometimes they may struggle with english a bit, but attitude compensates for lack of language proficiency. Breakfast is nice overlooking the river. The General manager is very present, having regular communication with guests and trying to help all the time. I would recommend it 100% and will definitely return. Location is fantastic, quite part of town and only 5 minutes walk from the main street, also great location for the alms giving ceremony in the morning. Definitely 5 stars

Room Tip: We traveled 2 adults and 4 small children. Hotel has no connecting rooms (Most hotels in LB don'...

Dear Customer,

Sabaidee! Warm greetings from Xiengthong Palace!

I would like to thank you for having shared your comments regarding your stay in our property with the TripAdvisor community. I am thrilled to learn you enjoyed your stay and that you are planning to return.

Kids are more than welcome at Xiengthong Palace. As you point out, we do not have connecting rooms as such. Still, our Mekong Suites can share part of their terrace with an adjoining Superior room, making it convenient for families or groups, yet staying in any of the two old palaces that, together with other new buildings, form our hotel means you can have adjoining rooms easy to reach when travelling with young children.

I hope to have the chance of welcoming you and your family back soon in Luang Prabang, and I thank you again for your feedback.

Best regards,

Guillermo

Luang Prabang can feel a bit overrun at times with wall to wall gift shops and crowded touristy street markets (focus away from the tchatchke sections and head for the the food markets, morning and night, used by the locals). But right next to the 500 year old Xiengthong Temple and a short walk from several other ancient sites, and directly on the quiet, return route of the daily 6 a.m. procession of monks and novices, is this gem of a hotel. We had a large room, relaxed dinners overlooking the Mekong, and superb, friendly service. There are a few other high-end hotels in town but they are a bit far from the key Unesco area, and we understand you need to take jitneys from them to get into the center of the town The big plus here was walking out of the room and being right in the midst of several temple courtyards, but away from the most bustling and noisy areas. While we liked several local restaurants, the peace and quiet of the Xienthong dining room was a relief. In the room, we did have to ask the staff a few times for extra towels, bathroom supplies, etc. The hotel is part of a loosely structured hotel group with international management. The new site manager, a very friendly and experienced European fellow who introduced himself on check-in and who we chatted with several times, is working to upgrade a few aspects of the hotel which still need a drop of polishing.

Stayed in this hotel for 3 nights after changing from Hotel de la Paix which we found not at all convenient for a whole range of reasons. Here you can really enjoy L.P. as it is near the town centre, the wats, the Mekong river, the best restaurants and a lot more. The hotel grounds are beautiful, it is made up of more than one building, so accommodations are not all the same: we chose a deluxe room which had an entrance hall with a couch, table and armchairs, a large and beautiful bedroom with plenty of windows equipped with shades so that it felt airy and bright, enormous bed, safe, iron, hairdrier, etc. The only con was the bathroom where you do not find one single hook where to hang towels or a robe let alone yr washings, if you have any, although there is also a tub besides the shower, with therefore plenty of space for a hook or a simple rope, this was a bit of a nuisance. Staff and service generally friendly and cheerful, of course language is always a bit of a problem but it happens all over SE Asia, you need to excercise your patience. Breakfast not exceptional but generally good.Lacking a pool but again the landscaping is simply gorgeous. Can easily reccommend it to everyone who puts comfort over all the rest.

Room Tip: Accommodations are all different, so ask to have a look at the room first.

Only lacking a pool, but grass and shade or sun. Rooms very spacious - double bed larger than twin. Iron, hairdrier, bowl of fruit. Staff very efficient and pleasant, remembering roomnumbers for you. Spa massage uk prices, but most relaxing. Aircon a little noisy at first.
Meals good, a bit western, but not cheapest, and cold stuff kept cool on buffet. Mecong weed worth trying with breakfast! Area slows down by 10pm, but they are up early. Sunset below hotel better than up on Mt. Phousi. Local proper market an experience - if you have time, real crush and some squalour. Night market for tourists all good humoured bargaining. Not far to walk into centre and other restaurants, but tuk-tuks easy to get.

This hotel is the perfect choice for staying in the centre of Luang Prabang. After a day spent in intensive walking, returning to the hotel was like returning home. It's very well decorated, combining traditional with contemporary elements. The staff is very nice and helpful. The food served in the restaurant is also good, breakfast included. I definitely recommend this hotel as an excellent price/value choice.

We have not much to add to all these good reviews because we do agree. There is definitely room for improvement at the "Mekong kitchen" restaurant both in cuisine and in service but that said it is a great choice at a reasonable cost... for Luang Prabang.

Dear Customer,

Sabaidee! Warm greetings from Xiengthong Palace!

I thank you for your review, which I have shared with the Kitchen by the Mekong team. Your feedback definitely helps us in ensuring we move on the right direction. Our Chef is finalising a new menu that, apart from showcasing Lao, Western and Sri Lankan food, will also help our Service team to improve and reach higher standards.

I trust you had a nice stay in our hotel, and I look forward to welcoming you back at Xiengthong Palace if your future plans include returning to lovely Luang Prabang.

Best regards,

Guillermo
