Beautiful property, with great location and service

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Jan 17, 2013
We stayed at Xiengthong Palace for 5 nights in December and absolutely enjoyed our stay.

Xiengthong Palace is located right next to Wat Xiengthong, one of the "must-see" temples in Luang Prabhang. Every morning, monks seeking alms (tak bat ceremony) go right by the hotel's entrance. On the other side of the hotel is the Mekong river. The hotel is located few minutes south of the tourist city center, making it easy to access all the major attractions by foot, while avoiding the crowds.

We were very happy with our experience. The room - a nicely appointed two-storey suite with an indoor pool that we used one night - was more luxurious than we had expected. The staff tried their best to help and please. Enjoyed breakfast every morning by the Mekong and got to know few of the staff members (especially the sous chef, Vone). I liked the fact that they always had some Laotian specialities at breakfast, in addition to standard western fare. Juices were fresh and very good.

We spent Christmas in LP, and the hotel had organized a Christmas gala dinner, with local/folk music and dance. It was a memorable evening.

We spent 3 nights in this comfortable hotel on the Mekong. It is located within walking distance of restaurants and shops and is right next to a beautiful Wat. The room was large, good bathroom facilities and the place was clean. Staff very friendly. No negatives.

Room tip: We had a riverside second story room and loved it.

The hotel is a former royal residency with lovely modernized rooms. Our room opened onto a patio overlooking the Mekong River. The staff was very helpful and informative. They provided sticky rice baskets for us to present small quantities of rice to the hundred or so buddhist monks. It was an experience that my family and I will not forget. We enjoyed excursions to the caves via a lovely ride in a longboat on the Mekong River. Joma bakery is excellent for sandwiches, pastry, and drinks. Our favorite dinner was at The Tables, located near the Night Market which was full of shopping delights!!

The hotel is simply great. It used to be a royal residency and you can easily understand why. It looks absolutely gorgeous. The rooms are really nice - we had a Suite with an inside large pool (which we were not told that takes 7 hours to get to the right temperature, therefore we could not use it one night as it was too cold). That was the only disappointment we had.
The outside part of the restaurant faces the river, it is peaceful and the food is absolutely delicious. A nice touch is the executive chef and the sous-chef coming out to check that everything was perfect. Breakfast is also very good, with a large choice of international and local food.
The staff is consistently professional, friendly and eager to help the guests in any way they can.
The manager of the hotel is also a constant presence making sure that everything works smoothly.
We really enjoyed our stay there and we would definitely recommend.

Thank you for your excellent review ! Thank you for praising me, my chef & sous chef ! It was so unfortunate that you could not use the plunge pool which needs few hours to get it heated. I 've instructed my front office staff to inform the guests on these little details which matters a lot ; specially during winter. Thank you for bringing it to our notice ! Your comments & compliments keep us motivated & perform better. Thank you again ! Looking forward to welcome you to Xiengthong Palace again !

This is a beautiful hotel. We had two nights. Very quiet, attentive service and serene! I would recommend this place! I feel so relaxed. Rooms are comfortable. We had a lovely room with a balcony overlooking the street. The grounds of the hotel are lovely. The breakfasts are great, sitting along the Mekong River. Just lovely. I will come back for sure!!

Former king' s palace is now an elegant mekong riverside hotel with beatuful rooms and super helpful staff. The breakfast was extra special because of the wonder Von cooking eggs to perfection and the ever smiling chef 'Rasika'. We had no seats on a flight to riem reap and the general manager, Gamunu made a quick call and voila we had seats! Just amazing staff from the top man down. Will absolutely stay again !
