“Xienthong Palace, Luang Prabang”
Reviewed March 27, 2012

I spent two nights here after two nights crazy in Bangkok on the start of an Indochina tour. It was so beautiful and peaceful after the hustle and bustle of a city (which I also loved!) and, at the end of our three week tour, I have to say it was the best hotel of all. The ambience of it all was just so lovely and the meals I had there were wonderful. The staff were so courteous and helpful and I couldn't fault it at all. I would thoroughly recommend it.

We spend 3 days in this hotel after a long motorbike trip around Laos.
The place to be. for the quality of the service, the friendly staff and the managment always present to anticipate your wishes.
Just small remarks
Need curtains in the room, better drainage for the shower and a swimming pool which is not possible in the old city protected by Unesco.
for sure we will come back to enjoy the tranquility , the food , and the staff.

Room Tip: ask a Suite on the mekong with a huge terrace

Thank you for your review & constructive comments ! We are in the process of installation of new curtains; wish complete by end of the month. We atteded to drainaige system too. All these got delayed due to the high occupancy levels we had during the tourist season of Laos; had to to wait untill occupancy levels to drop to start work. Thank you for bringing this to us. Looking forward to welcome you to Xiengthong Palace again !

We recently had the fortunate opportunity to go to Laos and stay in a very beautiful, serene, luxurious hotel in Luang Prabang. This hotel was a former palace and has been remodeled with all the latest amenities to make anyone's stay outstanding. All the people who helped us, from the chef in her wonderful kitchen to the waitstaff to the housekeepers to the people at the front desk, were amazing. This is definitely one of the best places we have ever stayed and it also has an excellent restaurant.

Room Tip: Rooms with a river view are quiet and beautiful.

The Xienthong Palace is a lovely hotel. The renovation of this former palace was extremely well done and the rooms are spacious. The staff are very attentive and the food in the restaurant is excellent. All of this does come at a price as it is one of the more expensive hotels in town. One minor annoyance - given the price of the rooms, it seems like they are gouging a bit to charge 16USD for transport to the airport. A regular taxi is about 7USD. I opted for a local taxi in a vehicle quite similar to the hotel's. Also - if you can avoid it, don't book either of the Lavender suites in the main building. They are right above the reception area and all of the noise from there will echo right into your room. Otherwise the location is wonderful and peaceful.

Thank you for your review & Constructive comments ! Although the Lavander suites are popular among guests who want to watch "TAK BAT " Morning Alms giving to Monks from the balconies of these 2 rooms; we accept there is a noise problem. We have taken measures to minimize the noise in the lobby area. We have reduced the airport transfer charges & planing to buy a luxury limousine for guest transportation. Thank you & Looking forward to welcome you to Xiengthong Palace again !

I've stayed in six different hotels in Luang Prabang and Xiengthong Palace is the best. Great, quiet area and a short walk to all the delicious restaurants, bakeries, etc. The beds and linen are fabulous. The staff is wonderful (friendly, knowledgeable, efficient, accommodating etc). To top it all off, the breakfast is superb. The excellent wait staff keeps bringing you delicious food and drinks while you soak in the relaxing surrounds as the city wakes up. I have stayed here twice. Once with my wife and the second times on business. The hotel was outstanding on both stays.

The friendly, courteous service. The smell of pikaki flowers as you walk in. The free upgrade to a room overlooking the Mekong (for one lucky member of our group!). The fantastic restaurant attached. The iPod station in every room. I can't say enough good things! It was such a nice place to stay in such a great town.

The hotel is brand-new, actually it was still in the soft-opening phase when it started. It is located on the river front and right next to the Xieng Thong Temple. It is in a quiet corner of town but the center of town is reached in a couple of minutes walking.

Staff are very friendly and attentive, the rooms are clean and spacious. Amenities are good and there is a large TV and IPod and dock in the room. Breakfast was also very good. I thoroughly enjoyed the hotel and would certainly stay here again on my next visit to Luang Prabang.

Room Tip: Get a room overlooking the Mekong.
