Almost all accommodation providers at Luang Prabang comprise of private houses that are converted into guest houses. This one is no exception. It's situated off the main street and a stone throw away from the market (selling perishable produce in the daytime & selling souvenir items in the evening). What the other reviews said is all so true about rubbish being thrown away after the market. Well, we can't have it all and that something has to give, right? It's also a stone throw away from the Mekong River, where there are a handful of restaurants. This is where I find the downside of this villa, where it doesn't have a restaurant facility. The room is not cleaned unless you leave the key with the front office. The owner himself speaks English, but just. As a result of that, social interaction with the owner is kept to a minimum. The room is fine. The bed is superb (very firm bed & not for Westerner's liking), wifi is great but what's lacking is the service. Whenever lodging that I have stayed so far, water is being provided daily but here, none is provided & not even coffee or tea making facilities. The bathroom is definitely below par. The basin somehow is not firmly linked to the waste pipe. So, whenever it's being used, the bathroom will be flooded. The format of the bathroom here is akin to the one found in China. When u take a shower, the bathroom will be wait all over. Cockroach and other crawly insects are to be found in the room & my guide kindly requested the owner to give it a good insect spray. Otherwise, I woke up with an army of baby spiders up my arms literally. The room also comprised of a fan & air-con. It's passable but not really that cold. At the moment, there's a renovation happening next door and it's months away before seeing completion. And so, during the daytime, you can hear the grinding and clanking sound of metals. At least the workers have a decency to not carrying on working in the evening. On the first floor, there's verandah where seats and chairs are placed for guests to mingle or enjoy the warm weather outside. However, that's not helping when guests would still stay outside until after 10 pm. Don't get me wrong, it's an enjoyable stay but it seems to be rough on the edges and it could have done so much better.
