“The good and the bad”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 28, 2013

The good - an amazing sight that everyone visiting Luang Prabang should experience. Watching the Laos people set up early in the morning and seeing the genuine connection they have to the ceremony is priceless. Sit back and take it all in

The bad - the usual douchebags with no respect for anything except getting more photos for their Facebook account. Get a life and stop ruining such an amazing tradition. I am not buddhist but just a little decency gets you a long way!

“Worth seeing!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 22, 2013

Worth getting up for at 5.30am, to see the procession of monks in their orange robes collecting gifts, usually sticky rice, but also other sweets or even money.

“Worth to wake up for this”

Very spiritual. The only downfall of it is the number of tourist getting too close to the monks. There are several areas in town where they promote expected behaviour.

“Be a part of it”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 19, 2013 via mobile

I woke up early expecting to just snap a photo of the ceremony like many tourists (in a respectful manner of course). Instead a local man asked me to sit next to him and have me a plate of food and bowl of sticky rice to give as the monks walked by. Was a great experience giving food and actually being a part of the procession. Afterwards I offered to pay the man but he refused and told me good things will happen.

“Up early”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 19, 2013

Good to be up at sunrise to share Alms giving with the monks. There are many Wats in Luang Prabang and the rich orange colour of their robes is a sight not to be missed early in the morning.
