“If you really need to go be respectful”
Reviewed May 16, 2012

Really, we don't understand why the alms giving is hyped as a major tourist attraction. We only watched from far and didn't take any pictures. Seeing tourists without any respect for local culture taking pictures of the monks at a distance of only 1-2 metres made us feel sorry for the monks and the the local people to whom this ritual actually means something.

“A moving morning ceremony”
Reviewed May 11, 2012

Based on reviewers recommendations, we awoke early and walked to the Alms Giving Ceremony. While we arrived about 45 minutes early (going on hotel rec rather than actual sunrise), we thoroughly enjoyed the ceremony and were very humbled by watching so many monks in their orange robes walk quietly through the streets to their morning prayers. Most of the tourists were thoughtful and respectful, unlike the experiences others have shared on the reviews, and the ceremony was well worth the early rising. I would highly recommend one getting up early and enjoying this moving experience.

great to see monks in different sizes and shapes and of different ages. The hand that gives always feel a sense of peacefulness and satisfaction that must be experienced. The calm of the morning adds to this wonderful feeling. The monks looked a little bored though.

“Rice Balls for the monks”
Reviewed May 8, 2012

If you don't mind geting up early in the morning this is quite interesting to see the orange clad monks on parade through town filling their baskets with rice balls and snacks.

“This is all about!”
Reviewed May 2, 2012

This is the main reason why I wanted to go to Luang Prabang,to witness this morning alms. I guess so does everybody else. And like most of everybody else the sexiness is gone after 2days in a row watching em,I am over it. Luang Prabang is a nice place after all so morning alms is still the bonus!
