We stayed one night in Ban Pakham and one in Ban Phoneheung, and were not nearly as impressed with the Ban Phoneheung branch.
While the location seems quite nice, just off the main road and right in the middle of the path of the tak bat, there was what sounded like a karaoke bar very close by, which wailed until after midnight. Our room was right off the street and the door apparently quite thin, so we heard every bit of foot and vehicular traffic that passed.
When we arrived, the staff seemed VERY confused as to why we were there, and while afterwards were very helpful and courteous, could be decribed as more confused than welcoming. Despite the fact that i had booked well in advance, all they could offer me was a room with twin beds for my husband and I. The safety deposit boxes were at the front desk, and the one assigned to our room was in use, so we used another room's. This felt a bit odd.
Clerical mix-ups aside, the room was very clean and well decorated, and the staff helpful once we were assigned a room. Unlike the ban pakham, this branch did not offer the Laos breakfast option, which we found disappointing.
They seem to know, however, that this branch is not as good because the price is lower, and in fact we saw ads putting the property up for sale.
i would recommend Ancient Luang Prabang hotel, but not the Ban Phoneheung branch.
