First the setting on the hill overlooking part of the township of Luang Prabang is great. The hotel and restaurant are very well designed and well furnished. We had a dinner for five on 30 December and were seated on the outdoor terrace overlooking the pool.
However you should be aware that the hotel & restaurant are located in suburban Luang Prabang. On our night some neighbours were having a party and using loud speakers and singing karaoke songs very badly. So we had a constant noise distraction.
The second location disadvantage is that it is located under the nearby international take off runway. So whenever an aircraft took off we had a loud noise as they flew over. Luckily there were only a couple of take offs during our meal.
The last problem were the mosquitos that we had. Sure there were insect candles burning by the pool by the mosquitos were still present. The alternative was to sit inside however all the doors were open so this would not have been of much use.
My last criticism was that the line of tables located next to the pool were the furthest from the terrace lighting and the diners had to use hand torches to read their menus. Reading lights, like they have at Blue Lagoon, would have been appreciated.
That said the food was very good as was the service from mainly Hmong staff.
The bill includes 10% service & 10% tax but still leaves a line for a further tip. The bill is quoted only in US $ which might suit its guests but does not comply with Lao law that requires all bills to be in the local currency - i.e. kip. Most other restaurants quote the bill in three currencies- kip, US $ & Thai baht.
In summary a special occasion restaurant, probably better for lunch than dinner, to avoid nearby parties & the mosquito's.
