Its telling that when you search hotels in Luang Prabang, Ock Pop Tok does not "pop" up on the list. There are indeed 4 rooms that are available to rent when you visit the website. They look charming enough and we booked one of the non river view rooms - the Hill Tribe room. We stayed a week there and enjoyed a considerable amount of service from the wonderful staff, whose names we did not register except for one of the managers Bam who helped us at every stage of our booking, stay and departure.

Ock Pop Tok is about 10-15 minutes out of town and they promised and mostly delivered a tuk tuk to take us and return us back only from their craft center. But we went so many times that we ended up paying our way - about $2.50 for our own tuk tuk which was no problem.

The craft center is really focused on the guests that take classes and tours at the center and their Silk Cafe really served this need as well. But it was there for us in the morning and we even had one early dinner there. BF and dinner were very sparse with guests; lunch time was the busiest. But we enjoyed the privacy and the relative isolation of the crafts center and this was not a detraction to us.

The grounds were indeed charming and full of green and with a great view of the brackish brown Mekong River. The room was quiet, the air conditioner worked, water pressure was great, a safe was available for our valuables, water and a electric kettle was there for us to use, minus any complementary coffee. The bed was firm and decent and the quality of our sleep was good. Free WIFI was great. There were many things about the week that were positive but all in all, we had as many concerns with staying there as "craft center guests" that we feel we must divulge. In a way i hope that the owners of the center take heed of this review and consider our criticisms.

The room was both pricey and primitive. Considering what we found out from our week's exploration in town, the value for the money tilted on the expensive side. And we had to pay for out ride to and from the airport. That is not to say that transportation should be included but it would have been a nice addition.

The room had concrete floors, concrete shower, and even a concrete basin and while it was dressed decently and functional, it did not truly resemble a hotel room. No closets; no dressers; we lived out of our suitcase which we opened up on a bench; it was moderately small. Luang Prabang is not lacking in decent hotels and the price ranges did not match the quality of the room that we paid for. I had the hardest time shaving because the mirror over the bathroom sink was positioned for a dwarf with scoliosis.

I think that this could actually be a great place for tourists to stay if the owner would invest some funds to upgrade this room - i didn't see any other room to make broader judgements. The foot print is there and it would not be hard to floor the room with tile or wood and upgrade the bathroom with tile and add a few pieces of furniture.

Without some upgrading, we would not recommend this room to anyone traveling to Luang Prabang. The other thing is that despite other positive reviews of the food, we graded the food as average...not pricey and adequate but nothing special, although the cappuccino was very good. THE TRUTH IS DESPITE THIS, AND BECAUSE OF THE WONDERFUL STAFF WE HAD A WONDERFUL TIME.

Dear David,
Thank you very much for taking to the time to write such a detailed review. We are always looking to improve and this kind of comments are truly helpful for us. Please make sure your criticism will be taken into consideration!
We are glad that your overall stay was good. We try to focus on guest service and always want anyone visiting us to feel welcomed, so thank you for such great comments about the team, it means a lot to us.
As for the rest of your review, please let me answer. The free ride to town is, as we explained during your check in, a shuttle, which means it is not always available but goes back and forth all day to take care of everyone visiting us. As we are approximately 5-10 minutes away from the city center, we however guarantee that if you just missed the shuttle, you won't have to wait longer than 30 minutes at worst before it comes back (and 30 minutes is in case of big traffic jam).
We put a lot of attention into the decoration of each room, using traditional textiles and crafts from different ethnic groups, our mattresses and furniture are all high quality, so we really feel our prices are fair. However, please accept my apologies about the mirror, be sure that it will be fixed. We also heard your suggestions and we will look into how we can add some more furniture into the rooms in a close future.
I hope that the rest of your stay was good, and that we will have the pleasure to welcome you here again anytime!
Best,
Quentin.

The reason that i said this is lazy resort is...
1. When I step in to the resort area i feel lazy with the welcome area for check in as the seating really comfortable and relax.
2. When I finished check in and move to their restaurant for lunch also feel lazy as their restaurant is next to the river and again with comfortable seating and stunning view
3. When I finished lunch and then move to my room I feel lazy again because of their comfortable bed and pillows which make me feel like I want to lock the door and just lay down on the bed for whole day
And I'm sure that if you are here you will feel the same with me.

This place. Wow. Beautiful views of the Mekong, stunning rooms, the friendliest staff in such a unique and incredible setting. We had such a relaxing stay. Sunset over the Mekong was amazing. The food is really great. We're trying to work out a way we can move in while they're not watching. We didn't want to leave.

We could have stayed at the many colonial-style hotels in town but this place appealed more due to the true riverfront location outside of the busier area. The room was adequate and spacious, maybe not luxurious but that was not really our expectation.
Our server at breakfast was a wonderful lady and so genuinely amiable that she made up for the food being less than memorable.
Although the place is buzzy during the day with weaving classes, it was wonderfully peaceful in the mornings and evenings. I was able to spend some relaxing time on the "communal" back porch overlooking the river while my wife took a weaving class that she really enjoyed.

house is beautiful
products are very attractive
but pity that prices are so unaffordable
i managed to buy only a cotton scarf; i'm not the only one thinking this as most tourists visiting the place on the same time were thinking the same
Most people would see and watch but 1 among 10 wiuld buy something i guess
I'm afraid it is becoming very touristic and prices more american than asian or lao
