Couldn't have asked for more. Beauty, charm, great food and wonderful service. Charming young French manager couldn't have been more helpful in sorting out problems with other accomodation in Laos. Magic experience. Gorgeous rooms with weavings by the delightful young artist in residence. Somewhere I wil definitely go back to and do some of the workshops. Gallery/shop was beautiful and the young woman running it was very knowledgable and helpful.

For 55 dollars this place is quite a steal. Located about a 12 minute bike ride from the center or Luang Prabang, Ock Pop Tok has gorgeous views of the Mekong and a very friendly, very accommodating staff. The free bikes are perfect for cruising around the city. The breakfast was very good but a bit simple. I personally thought the staff spoke excellent English, although I am coming from Bangkok where competent English even at nice places does not seem to be in particularly high demand.

The first night we stayed in one of the two 90 dollar rooms and were a bit underwhelmed. But, the 55 dollar Hill Tribe room is simply fantastic. It was more aesthetically pleasing than the 90 dollar room and just had a cozier vibe to it. Therefore, unless you really, really need the extra space, I suggest choosing either of the 55 dollar rooms.

My two complaints are that the first night our room was invaded by the scariest looking beetle that I have ever seen. Goodness me. And the tuk-tuk into town (which is somewhat necessary at night) seemed a little overpriced at 30,000 KIP considering we could always get a ride out to Ock Pop Tok for 20,000. The night manager simply called his friend and had him pick us up--so yes, that was a bit annoying.

Other than that, what a pleasant and peaceful stay. Plus, the shop is simply incredible, and if finances were not an issue, I know the girlfriend would have bought just about everything.

Room Tip: Pick the Hill Tribe room or the other 55 dollar room unless you cannot live without an in-room view...

It was descriebed as a familiar athmosphere that I did not feel.
For breakfast they always served only half of the food promissed. The bread I had to ask for every morning was grey once and never fresh.
The room where nice and mostly clean but small and rudimental for the price.
The staff was helpful but because of their bad English knowlege there were many missunderstandings. Even though they were friendly and tried their best. Still, if I hadn't payed in advance I would have changed the hotel after one or two nights. The management did not show up in 5 days. Not familiar and not client orientatied. It was not about the money I just did not feel welcome at this place. It could be because it is after the main season. Nevertheless I like that they support weavers especially also young women and think this is a unique and grat concept.

I joined a friend who was already staying at this charming and delightful guesthouse. Everything about it was inviting. The room was stylish, comfortable and clean. The balcony offered a view of the Mekong filtered through greenery. It was far away enough from the bustle, yet close enough to take one of the well-kept bicycles and have a pleasant ride into the town. The staff were warm and helpful, so when they requested we wait a while because the owner wanted to talk to us, we obliged. It turns out they'd double booked our room, and asked if we would be willing to relocate into town. Given the fact that they were all so very nice, we agreed. They said they'd found us a hotel on the river and we would be reimbursed the $15 difference between what we were paying. They would also take care of our transport.

We proceeded to purchase items from their store, then we duly set about packing to leave. This is where things began to go downhill. As we stood around waiting for their transport to arrive (20 minutes, or so) we were told the river room was not available. Seeing our distress, the staff member dispatched to see us off made hasty arrangements to join us to ensure we were happy. By now our morning was already escaping us. Anyway, we were taken to a hotel totally lacking in charm, and the only room available there was one with a double bed. We said we required two beds, but no, sorry, the room with two beds was booked.

We said that we found this unacceptable, and since I have visited and worked in Luang Prabang before, I suggested they try get us into a hotel that I knew about. After many phone calls and another hour passing we were taken to the Apsara, the hotel I requested. Ironically, it seems one of the owners of Ock Top Pop had attempted to contact the owner of the Apsara earlier but had not reached him.

I suppose my complaint is that we were hugely inconvenienced, and there was no follow through whatsoever from the owners of Ock Top Pop. Furthermore, to add insult to injury, they never so much as offered a 5% discount on the purchases we made at their store.

The story does not end here. A few days later we received an email offering a night's accommodation at the Apsara, courtesy of Ock Top Pok. We couldn't quite work out what that meant. After all, we had left Luang Prabang at that point and did not plan to return.

All this said, Ock Top Pok a totally gorgeous place, and you should seriously consider staying there, however make sure your booking is confirmed, and then stick to your guns, because no one will do you any favours in return.

We found this place by chance and are glad we did!

As others have mentioned, there are only four rooms in the villa, decorated in the style of the ethnic groups. two rooms face onto the mekong sharing a terrace (slightly more expensive than the other two rooms) and the other two face the front of the property. the villa is in the grounds of the weaving centre which is 5mins in a tuk tuk from the centre of town(or you can cycle on the free bikes if you feel enthusiastic:-) ) the centre has a tuk tuk that runs back and forth into town during the day and at other times, we just hailed one on the main road.

The rooms are very bright, clean, and beautifully decorated. there's no tv but we found we didn't notice! the staff are all fantastic, really enthusiastic and smiley and always willing to help with any requests. you take breakfast in the weaving centre cafe and it was lovely to watch the weavers setting up for the day. breakfast wasn't particularly extensive (mainly eggs, bacon and toast) and service wasn't always the speediest, but you know, it doesn't matter as the place has a way of just making you relax and get into 'laos time':-)

it's well worth taking a tour around the weaving centre as the skill and patterns are just fantastic. the hand made scarves and other weavings are very high quality and definitely worth buying to take home (they have a shop in the grounds and one in town).

Overall, this is a lovely, relaxing place to stay which is helping contribute towards creating sustainable employment and skills for locals. definitely worth a visit:-) it isn't the cheapest accommodation you'll find in luang prabang but it is worth it.

We stumbled upon this guesthouse and immediately fell in love with it.

-The room decoration shows some of their unique works, and the better rooms have views of the Mekong.
-The beds are great!
-It is 5 min by bike to the centrum, which are provided by the hotel (or a short tuk-tuk ride). On the upside this also means that it is a very calm area at night which isn't always the case in LPB center.
-Breakfast at the Mekong is superb (Gave me a feeling of ''really'' being in SE Asia, ...)
-Staff and management are very helpful, we felt more "at home" then in a hotel.
-You can see the weavers in action.
etc etc.

If we would have had the possibility, we would have stayed the entire week in this wonderful place. Highly recommended!

We were lucky enough to stay at Ock Pop Tok for 5 nights in one of their river view rooms which was wonderful. The room itself is decorated with handmade textiles that are made in the weaving centre and through multiple village projects that have been set up by the centre and which help local villages perfect a trade and increase their income. The textiles themselves are stunning and you can browse their onsite shop if you'd like to take some home with you. The room had both a fan and air conditioning so you're all set to deal with the heat outside. There was also a lovely balcony complete with lounging chairs where you can sit and stare at the Mekong.

The staff at Ock Pop Tok are incredibly helpful with lots of suggestions for things to do, breakfast is included and is delicious and there are free bikes to use for the 2km cycle into the centre of Luang Prabang. All in all we loved our time there and will definitely be back.

Room Tip: River view is slightly more expensive but the balcony is worth it!
