Description: Excellant french bakery which also has a branck in Vientiane. Has over 30 types of bread & pastaries. Open from 6.30AM to about 9PM. Very good coffee. I am a regular there for my morning coffee & pastry. I can upload a photo.

Crusty, tasty baguette - yummmm. Had smoked ham w/ apple & cheese. The apple wasn't quite as caramelized as I like, but was a great flavor combo. Sandwich was about a foot long, 2 were plenty for 3 of us. The baked good looked fab (and not just "fab for Laos"). For dessert had a pistachio tarte which was a little disappointing, too heavy, not a very bright flavor; the crust had good crunch but was very thick and overbaked. Others in group had ice cream which was excellent - sorbets & icecreams both had lovely texture and real flavor. Planning to go try the chocolatine for brekkie.

Morning, noon or night, croissants and pastries are sinful treats that many of us indulge in when on holiday. The selection of bakery items, as well as home made jams and ice creams was impressive. The cafe, a Luang Prabang favourite, is a lovely old house on the main road opposite a temple complex on the quieter side of the town. How nice it is to sit in such a wonderful old building and enjoy authentic French breads and pastries with a cup or two of smooth Lao coffee. Went several times.

This place was a real treasure to find after cycling around Luang Prabang with wife sitting on the back seat. The cafe boasts sandwiches, tartines, feuillet, salads, classic French bread and 20 kinds of Viennese pastries and Danish.. The Caesar style salad herself had was easily the best (and biggest) we've encountered and the baguette with beef and potatoes with side green salad was superb. The coffee is good too. It's the place to eat or grab some goodies to take with you.

Most importantly, the espresso was very good. The crema was a little thin but the body of the shot was good. The initial taste was chocolatey, changing to wheaty. The espresso pulled at the Vientiane location of Le Banneton was more complex and had more character, but this shop pulled decent espressos on several occasions.
The croissants come as plain, butter, pan au chocolat, almond, ham and cheese.
We tried the plain and butter croissants; get the butter. The crust is nicely crisp and flaky. The inside is light, tender-flaky with a very slight butter taste. Overall, an A- rating and better than 95% of the croissants available in the U.S. Mousses, almond/blueberry tarts are very good, as well.
Only a few chairs have cushions; chairs at the Vientiane location are more comfortable for a protracted cafe sit.
Their large coffee is not that large but is also good. I saw a gofer from a luxury hotel stop by there to pick up an order. It is across the street from Wat Sop Sikkharam. It opens at 6:30 am. Unfortunately, it closes at 6:00 pm.
