Khoum Xieng Thong Boutique Villa

Fantastic. The family that runs it is very friendly and helpful. They have more expensive luxury rooms, which are beautiful and probably well worth the $40 they cost, including breakfast and free bikes. But the real steal here is their budget bungalow. 80,000 kip / $10 (low season June 2012) for a double bungalow with fan. It is situated on their pretty little garden with fountains and tables for relaxing and enjoying a beer. Right in the center of downtown Luang Prabang, towards the end of the peninsula. Has wifi, free bananas, but the budget room does not include breakfast and free bikes - they rent the bikes for 10,000 kip/day. It's a huge step above the other budget options we looked at - very nice linens, spotless bathroom in great condition with nice fixtures and good tile floor. We seriously thought about extending our stay for a few days based on our room alone, and we checked out a lot of options in town before deciding on it.

Room Tip: Their budget bungalow is a steal. If you're looking to pay a bit more, their luxury rooms looked...

Large and comfortable rooms with shutters. Evening drinks and breakfast are enjoyed in a garden setting. The breakfast is very good. Location is near to most sights. Friendly service from this family run place. Even the dogs are very friendly, don't bark or bother guests. Bicycle rent is for free. Cycling is a great way to explore the town and surroundings.

We stayed here one night. We arrive early in the morning - we left our bags in the check-in area. When we returned two hours later, they had prepared our room and brought our bags up. It is located in a quiet area of Luang Prabang - away from the night market - but close to French cafes and a temple. We even heard the monks chanting in the afternoon. The breakfast is provided and is excellent. The hotel has a cute courtyard with a small koi pond and cute lawn decorations. The room was very large and filled with sunlight. The AC worked very well. We were sad we could only stay here for one night!

Luang Prabang is a pricey place and one won't find the cheap and nice guesthouses one finds in other small towns in Asia
- this much was clear when we looked for guesthouses in Luang Prapang.
The Khoum Xiengthong Guesthouse is nice, big rooms (tiny TV - with the rooms being so big you can't watch Tv from the bed) and ok breakfast. I just thought that the 50$ we paid per night was a lot to ask for as the bath was slightly dirty and not very nice and there was nothing special about the place. There really is nothing wrong with the place but also nothing great about it and I would have expected more for that money.
The breakfast is ok - nothing to write home about and the service was ok too. I was slightly surprised to find the owner coming into our room one afternoon without knocking while we were having a nap.

We stayed 8 days at this guest-house in one of the cheap bungalows and just loved it.
It is located just a few meters away from the most famous temple in town (Vat Xieng Thong) in a very quiet alley at the far-end of the peninsula in the old town center.

The guest-house is surrounded by temples and by a gorgeous villa - the only disturbance may be the bell and songs at 4 am on auspicious days, but we didn't bother at all, rather found it was a magical experience !

The 50$ rooms are huge and beautiful, they're worth every $ compared to similar places we've seen around (we've checked quite a lot). The cheap ones are of course very modest comparatively but quite large for a budget catagory, simple but comfortable and charming, equipped with a nice bathroom, and more than you would expect: free bicycle rental, free bananas and water, and good WIFI connexion.
The owners are friendly and have two (quiet) cute small dogs.

I loved just siting in the garden with a book...
If that's not paradise, it's close enough from it!

A friend and I took a 3-day trip to Luang Prabang and it was the loveliest holiday. A slow-paced, quiet, sleepy town was the most warm and friendly place.
We stayed in this guesthouse back in Spring of 2009 (date choice didn't allow me to go that far), but I am only to happy to give an excellent rating to this place.
Noi and his family were very warm and friendly people. They didn't serve any breakfast back then yet, but we had the most wonderful stay in the upstairs room which had two queen-sized beds, and was very well-appointed. The guesthouse is located in the quiet part of town, so it was definitely a bliss-ful experience.
I would love to come back to Luang Prabang, and I know where I would go to stay. Nowhere else but here.

Room Tip: The upstairs bedrooms have two queen-sized beds and are very quiet.

We accidentally bumped into this place while looking for a guesthouse. We had one of the $15 rooms and they are worth every penny of it. True the room is not to big but how much time do you spend in it? The wall was covered with buterflies which was a very nice decoration detail. It is close to different monestaries so you are full aware of what goes on there at all times of the day. For me that added to the charm of the place, even if it means waking up at 4 am. You'll fall asleep a few minutes later again anyhow. Staff is nice, the bikes they rent are in good shape and their laundry service is superfast. Really recommend staying here
