This is great fun , plenty of products - of course it is aimed at tourists - however different from Night Markets in other countries, not massive hard sell - very laid back. The locals are lovely to chat to and are happy to haggle prices, but as they are such gentle people this did not happen with a high degree of effort from myself. Repetition in products, but if you look closely you find some nice things - and as I say take the 100 items the same they perhaps don't look much - but get one of these home - in your own room and it suddenly looks very chic and wonderful memory of a great time.

This is a great night market and a must to visit if you are in Luang Prabang. There are heaps of stalls and while many goods are repeated the quality is generally quite good with little that you might have classed as "rubbish" that you quite frequently find in other markets. The range of goods was good and the people quite friendly and obliging.

What we found very pleasing was that while you could be looking at goods and were being "encouraged" by the stall holder there was not the pressure that often exists in other similar markets. Also the bargaining process was very amicable without undue pressure or inappropriate responses to offers that may have been made.

If you don't like crowds it may be best to get there early because as the night goes on it becomes very busy.

A must to see is a food lane to the left shortly after entering the Market from the Post Office end. The range of foods is amazing with a very wide variety at very cheap prices. If you are game you can buy a plate of food selected from a wide range of dishes from one of many buffets for as little as 10,000kip, about $1.25US.

All in all a great experience not to be missed inLuang Prabang!!!!

Maybe some people like the hustle and bustle of sheer chaos...I do not! So imagine my surprise when I wondered into this night market to find everything in nice orderly rows...noone yelling...noone screaming...prices were not inflated 500% making even initial negotiation ridiculous! If only all Asian markets were this pleasant!

I liked this Night Market, especially the food stall alley towards the south end. It was 'hopping' and the prices were good. Buffet has taken a new meaning here, but for 10,000 Kip (about $1.35), you can't it! Just don't sit at a table without permission, they are reserved for buffet eaters! I actually found the food here a bittastier than at the restaurants.
The marketeers start setting up as early as 4pm, and hang out til around 10pm. It gets crowded. The street is closed around 530p or when traffic can't get through. It starts at the north corner of the Palace grounds and wanders south quite a ways...especially when full.

Typical fare: t-shirts, carvings, weavings, scarves, pants, tea/coffee, art, wonderful hanging items, snake whiskey, handbags, bowls, traditional costumes, lotsa stuff.
