“Finally, local food with flavour”
Reviewed March 20, 2014 via mobile

After having just about written off Laos as a food destination, with high end restaurants serving well prepared but bland food, we found Apsara. The Australian chef uses the finest local ingredients but adds flavour! If combining Lao food with international cooking methods makes this "fusion" food, then so be it. Some of the dishes we had appeared typically Lao, but were so much more flavourful.

The tables on the waterside are stunning. The service is attentive, and the chef's charming Canadian wife/hostess, Catherine, is warm and welcoming and available at all times.

If you're tired of noodle soup and bland curries, try Apsara. You won't be disappointed. And the prices are typical Lao reasonable.

“Not sure what all the fuss is about”
Reviewed March 19, 2014

This restaurant is in a fantastic location. The food is nice, I ordered the pasta which unfortunately was overcooked. The wine list was decent and the staff very accommodating. People rave about this place and I'm not sure why? There are so many great restaurants in LP. I personally would not go back in a hurry. There was nothing wrong it just wasn't up to the same standard as other places I've tried.

“Best yet”

IMHO Lao food is not the most inspiring of SE Asian cuisines. I have found most dishes to be lacking in flavour, seasoning and complexities. This restaurant has given me hope. The menu consists of about 10 smaller plates and 10 large plates. We opted to share the dried fish appetizer, the tomato salad and the vegetables in yellow curry w/rice. Each dish was a delight. Now it wasn't as busy as it should have been so the staff was very attentive. Given their charming nature, I suspect they try their best every night.

For Lao style cooking, this is the place to beat.....and prices are quite reasonable too.

“Recommended to us”
Reviewed March 17, 2014 via mobile

Had read about this place and seen it on trip advisor so had always planned to try it out when a French couple recommended it to us after he found out we were Australian as the chef is from Melbourne. Really glad we went. Food was delcious and reasonably priced for the quality. Service was great. Definitely check it out

Wonderful fresh food. Limited menu. We had the 5 spice chicken. Delicious! Australian manager very personable. Eat outside along the river.
