By any measure, The Belle Rive is a great little hotel in a city very well served by accommodation options. The Mekong riverside location is most appealing and the hotel uses that location to good advantage with its riverside terrace available for meals, especially breakfast. The room I had, Frangipani 3, was a little small but it was well laid out and well equipped, most suitable for me staying there alone. The staff are very quiet and friendly and the stay is almost serene. Nonetheless, the staff always attended to any request I had promptly and efficiently. One small suggestion from me would be to add some variety to their standard breakfast menu (I stayed there 4 days) and to replace the watered down and sweetened fruit juices with freshly squeezed options. The Belle Rive was a highlight of my Laos travels and I would not hesitate to recommend it to single and couples (not sure it would suit families).

Room Tip: I stayed upstairs and would say that is a better option than on the ground floor.

The hotel location is perfect, across a narrow quiet road from the Mekong, with the hotels comfortable open air dining and relaxing areas directly opposite overlooking the river. Or you can breakfast on a pavement table outside the hotel. The food is freshly cooked to order and very good (their traditional breakfast noodle soup is gorgeous and I loved their snack of fried river leaves with sesame seeds/chilies and chutney with a chilled wine or beer on the Mekong terrace in the evening). My room was a ground floor room (more like a studio flat with it's own front door and entrance hallway) in the end terrace. It was perfect and I loved it. It had dark hard wood floor and furniture, big shower and all was spotlessly clean. There was a mossie net above the bed and electric mossie zapper in the desk drawer if needed. The staff at this hotel are lovely, kind, helpful and friendly. Each tour they arranged for me was really enjoyable (stunning waterfalls & bear sanctuary, elephants & waterfalls) and were very good value for money with lovely, kind, friendly tour guides/tuk tuk driver. I borrowed a bike from the hotel and it was a great way to get around town and early morning rides were magical. I was so sorry to leave -Luang Prabang feels like a dreamlike oasis of beauty and calm in the world and the Hotel BelleRive was the perfect place to stay. P.S. the public library and BigBrotherMouse both organize book donations and reading lessons for Laotian people from the outlying villages and hamlets. It was interesting to go there and hear about their work and donate some books (you can buy them there and then for pennies or sponsor a book publication at BBM).

Beautiful house converted boutique hotel overlooking Mekong. Location is very good, close to Wat Xieng Thong, the biggest temple in the old town. Indeed, old town is within walking distance about 10 minutes to the night market. Hotel has free bicycles for guests. Moving around is very convenience and easy. The room is nicely equipped and particular like the mosquitos netted bed. Wifi is unstable. Guess it's better for one to enjoy and absorb the scenery better. Terrace restaurant serves very good Asian and Western breakfast and surprisingly very efficient services.

The Belle Rive is a centrally located and beautifully appointed hotel overlooking the grand and mighty Mekong. The rooms are very well appointed and tastefully decorated. The breakfast is delicious and served in an open terrace overlooking the river. We paid extra for the maisonette rooms but our friends had the cheaper superior rooms. I must say that we were all in agreement that the superior rooms, though cheaper, were much nicer - all on one level and spacious.
The Wi-Fi was intermittent and only really available in the hotel's small lobby.
I'd happily give this hotel 5 stars if only the service was better. Some of the staff were very kind and helpful, but for the most part, they were rather indifferent and seemed largely distant. We went from here to the Riverside Boutique Resort in Viang Vieng, where the service was excellent: friendly and efficient. maybe the team at Belle Rive could invest in some staff training. Luang Prabang was a true highlight of Laos and this hotel is a lovely gem with a great aspect. More proactive and interested staff would make it an outstanding place to discover this gorgeous destination.

Room Tip: Go for the cheaper 'Superior' rooms. Though you wont a have a balcony, they are MUCH nicer.

Location is very good, in a quite part of Luang Prabang, close to the river, but you can walk to "downtown" for exampale to the night market in 5 to 10 minutes. Nice colonial style house. Reception is part of a small restaurant, so no great lobby or so. Service is ok, quite but not very friendly. Room was clean, with a balcony. I think we had the most expensive room with two levels. But the aircon was to weak to cool down this large room, and so it felt like nearly 30 degrees in the upstairs sleeping area. Breakfast was really nothing special. When you look at the quite high price, we had expected really more. Good, but clearly no 5 points.
