“Best hotel of our round the world trip!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 11, 2012

The Belle Rive is a miracle! We had already been from NYC to Turkey, Jordan, Tanzania, India and Thailand when we came to stay at the marvelously enchanting hotel on the banks of the Mekong. The rooms are lovely, the owners and staff delightful, free internet, bikes and a sunset cruise on the Mekong, complete with beer or white wine. The food is sensational. We were treated to a private dinner and an additional cruise for our anniversary.
Lauang Prabang is hard to get to but we plan to return just to stay at the Belle Rive again.

Room Tip: They are all wonderful!!!

Upon first sight of The BelleRive hotel, coming from NY and LA I thought perhaps it may have an air of pretentiousness; simply because the beauty of the converted colonial house hotel is formidable - even the decor of the outdoor restaurant is beyond charming.. its simple, elegant and gorgeous. The management team was exceptional. Each day we had a different set of questions (where are the best elephants? :) or, we had heard about waterfalls, which one should we visit?, etc) we were met with all we needed from the best tuk tuk drivers and riverboats to where we may like to walk in the evening for a meal. (I will say we enjoyed the food so much at the BelleRive, we mostly ate there! Also the view of the Mekong river is pretty much as good as is gets in Luang Prabang.) The rooms are smashing with many different styles to choose from depending on your needs - we were on the riverfront with our own sitting area overlooking the quiet street - great for people watching and vendors making their way to the night market - also within walking distance. We traveled all through Thailand and Laos, and the stay here was a highlight. Quality and numerous personal touches from a genuine and gracious staff. Highly recommended.

We went to 3 different hotels in luang prabang before we finally felt at home. at belle rive we got great tips of where to go and what to do in laos, the night market is walking distance, the river right across the street so we where dropped at our doorstep so to speak after a long river cruise and travel agents are close by as well for your convenience. the rooms are very nice, the mini bar is well stocked and room service is fantastic and fast!
the terrace restaurant has a great view, good food and is very relaxing to dine at.
all in all this hotel was key to all the things we where able to experience in laos that made our trip magical!!! very good job!!

The BelleRive is a charming hotel. We stayed in the Mango Room which was tastefully decorated with Laos decor. The location is great, within walking distance of all the major attractions. From your front terrace you can see the Mekong River. Breakfast was excellent as were the other meals we ate there. Staff are exceptional, very attentive to your every need. A beautiful place, highly recommended

We stayed at the lovely Belle Rive hotel on the first three nights of our trip to S.E. Asia. It was an excellent start to the holiday. The hotel is a converted colonial house with an unmatched location overlooking the Mekong river. We had room 1 which had its own entrance out onto the quiet road and it was a pleasure to fall out of bed and cross the road to eat breakfast with the view over the river, The staff were very pleasant and helpful. Luang Prabang is a charming, slightly old fashioned town, and was my favourite destination of the entire trip. The only downside of the hotel was a very unpleasant smell in our toilet. The cleaning staff always managed to freshen up the room but within hours the smell returned. I suspect that the problem lies with the sewage system. All in all however we loved this hotel.

Manager Elle is great. The rest of the staff doesn't speak English very well but they know when they need to contact the manager. Owner is ever-present but not engaged in operations. Breakfast is good - you can order off the menu. Frangipani suite was much better than Tamarind superior room - wooden stairs to climb between bath and bed. See tips.

Hotel can help with dinner and tour reservations. Please note that if you take a boat to the buddha cave, the captain will not come ashore with you. Take a flashlight (wish we had been forewarned) as you will have to depend on those more prepared.

Room Tip: If it matters to you that your bathroom be on the same floor as your bed - look very carefully at th...

We stayed at BelleRive for 3 nights in Feb 12 and had a great stay.

The hotel consists of a number of separate houses on a quiet stretch of the Mekong riverfront. We stayed in a Mango room, booked easily through Agoda, which was not large but certainly adequate. The room was generally clean and well equipped with a very good bathroom and shower. The bed was very comfortable and despite the room opening onto the street, it was very quiet - in part due to the nightly curfew that is enforced in Luang Prabang.

The staff were excellent and very willing to help with all our needs. The hotel has a small terrace restaurant overlooking the Mekong where breakfast is served. The breakfast itself was very good and plentiful (plenty of western or Asian choices including cereal, eggs and meat, fruit, bread basket, juice and hot drinks).

The town itself is a very relaxing experience with plenty of cafes, restaurants, shops, markets and plenty of colourful monks. The French influence is clearly discernible and many of the old buildings have been or are being renovated.

I would certainly return to Luang Prabang and strongly recommend the BelleRive.
