“Learn about the cuisine as well as eat it”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 29, 2014

We were a group of nine, so we had to have the set menu but it proved to be a really good introduction to Lao cuisine. Each dish was well cooked and beautifully presented, the waiter giving a description of what was in it and, if necessary, how to eat it. The restaurant was full but the service did not suffer. Booking recommended.

“Good introduction to Laos food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 29, 2014 via mobile

What a pleasure to be served by such friendly, helpful staff. We booked a table as it seemed to us they are always busy for dinner. You can sit inside or outside and they have a small selection of items for sale as they also do cookery classes here. We chose the 2 soups on the menu and swopped half way through. Delicious. My husband has never been a fan of butternut, but he is now. The bamboo and veg soup had the most delicious broth, we could not say which we preferred. I chose the chicken stuffed in lemon grass on a skewer - delightful and light, hubbie chose the pork and egg concoction which he also declared was good. Just watch the bill at the end if you pay by credit card as they convert to USD. We missed this and will no doubt pay a higher price. Rather get cash out if you can, plenty of ATM's around now if your own currency is not USD.

“Tasy and good value”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 28, 2014

Tamarind offer a good taste of food and drink. What i like the most is the chilli drink. We tried some menu there. Bamboo soup is also nice and tasty. What of the cons the place is quite hot for me since they dont have the air cond room. It really had a good price

“I cannot say enough great things about this place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 28, 2014

Our experience started out with luck. my friend and I (2 girls in our mid 20's) walked up to the restaurant on a Friday night after being told that this place cannot be missed. Making a reservation did not even cross our mind, we were on total holiday mode/brain. we walked up and asked for a table for two and were quickly whisked into the restaurant and seated at a wonderful table in the heart of the restaurant right by the window. the place was packed, but we just figured we came in at the right time. and we were right, a woman from the table next to us leaned over and told us that about 20 other people had been turned away that night. it just so happened that the party in front of us had made a reservation for 6 but ended up only being 4. they had separated the extra table (table for 2) moments before we had showed up. it must have been fate! we had the most incredible meal. we had the prefix meal which also included a glass of wine. we stated with a bamboo soup, followed by a sample platter with toasted river weed with sesame seeds, water buffalo jerky, wild bore sausage, green chili eggplant caponata and sweet tomato relish (both were basically salsas that you would dip your sticky rice into). this was followed by fish cooked in this unbelievable sauce served in a piping hot banana leaf.

if you are going to Luang Prabang- eat here!

Thanks, Caroline for such an enthusiastic and appreciative review. Running a family restaurant is both a labour of love and really tough work, so we're really happy when everything comes together so well for our customers.
