Had a great evening at the Tamarind trying some of the dishes recommended by others on Trip Advisor and venturing out and trying a few of our own - and yes, we over ordered. But everything was fresh, bursting with flavour and delicious. Would go again.

This restaurant specialises in presenting the best of Lao food and ingredients and we had a wonderful meal. Make sure you try one the tasting platters with sticky rice and river weed crackers (we enjoyed the vegetarian one) and the chicken in lemongrass is to die for. The staff were helpful and caring, checking to make sure we were happy - which we were.

We thought Vietnamese food was the best in SE Asia until we ate here. We ate here twice and both times it was fabulous. Rudi, the manager, was charming. Our waiter both time was Sip and he was great and very helpful. The Laos appetizer sampler was perhaps my favorite with 4 different dips that you ate with river weed and sticky rice. And don't miss the Kefir Lime and Lemongrass granita with Vodka. Killer!!! We also liked the chicken cooked in lemon grass, the buffalo, the cured pork grilled with tamarind, and the frog. Simply excellent. Be sure to book a table as it can get quite busy.

We've been there for lunch and it was a great surprise. We had the set lao menu, which was great because we could try a little bit of most flavours in lao food. The place is nice, riverfront and the service is welcoming. Prices are good considering the fame and quality of food. They also have cooking classes, which are really good.

They make a big hoo-ha about the food, which we found essentially disappointing. It was full and the service slow.

Who is the "they" that makes the "hoo ha"? Tamarind aims to help the curious visitor learn about a relatively unknown cuisine. That's why we provide useful information and insights in our menu, and staff take their time to demonstrate and explain the cuisine. For those who want a standard restaurant meal, or are not interested in Lao cuisine and customs, the attention given by visitors and others to our restaurant would most likely seem odd. We're sorry to disappoint you, but luckily being busy is regarded by most folks as a good sign!
