You can't help but notice the oodles of signs for Utopia. We received a voucher for Utopia when we did some trekking and finally gave in on our last day. The cantilever deck is impressive for its view and the signature shake (mango, tamarind, cinnamon) is a nice treat, but other than that, it wasn't worth going to. Not sure if because we were there at around noon, but the place was empty. Staff were difficult to locate as they were on the deck busy texting. As a result, dishes and garbage were piling up on tables. Not sure what the place looks like at night, but I suspect it is a party scene as where we sat, there was a smell of vomit in the fabrics of the lounging area.
We were feeling snackish, so we ordered some chicken tendons, but they didn't have any or didn't want to make them. That was fine, so we settled on the Luang Prabang treat of fried river weed with grilled eggplant dipping sauce. To be honest, it was meh. It tasted no different than the stuff sold at the markets only it cost much more. Also ordered the fries which were tasty. With our vouchers, we only paid for our drinks. This place is laid-back...perhaps too much.
