“Perfect Serene Location”
Reviewed March 9, 2012

Rented lower room with side door entrance. Room was a good size. Bathroom was a good size as well with divided shower and toilet areas. The room was a bit dark but very clean.

Had a bit of confusion at check in. The guy couldn't locate our online reservation. They gave away the double river view room we booked and gave us a triple room on the ground loor instead. Overall, service was good from the waitresses at the breakfast place to the guy who organized our cab ride to the airport.

Breakfast by the river - beautiful scene. The breakfast itself was mediocre. Since Laos has such great coffee, it would have been nice to have brewed coffee rather than instant coffee.

Bike rental was good. The bikes were cheaper and in better condition than the ones we rented at Aspara.

We had the front balcony room and paid $60/night, including breakfast. We were here for a week: Nov.7-14,2011. Yes...the location is a 10. Lovely street and a walk to everything. This room is atmospheric, but dark. Bathroom is a definite disappointment too. Breakfast is served in an open area across the street. Some mornings it was REALLY cold out there. I asked what happens to breakfast when it rains......answer: you have breakfast out there anyway.
Wi-fi was fine for us.
There were days when glasses weren't changed, wastebaskets not emptied, water not replaced, no replenishment of soap, etc.
This room seems to be the only one that would be acceptable to me. When i saw the other rooms on the upper floor they were small and one or two were windowless.Prices are lower too.

Ed, the manager, was gone for most of our stay. When he returned, the vibe "picked up". Ed is just delightful and speaks excellent English.

I found it surprising that security at night is one of the staff sleeping at the front desk floor. Not professional to say the least. We, too, came back a few times at night, wormed our way in....and took our key.

We did have laundry done and it came back fine. Also enjoyed renting bikes for a day here. breakfast was good.......but NO variety and coffee was powdered. Made a daily stop to Saffron.....don't miss their coffee.

Since "in season" here starts in October, we paid higher rates.: Not cheap. Would check out Villa Nagara AND the Apsara before I booked here.

Room Tip: The Balcony room IS the best.

Liked the location and staff were helpful. Room was clean and managed to get some hot water from shower - which is more than can be said for many other places in the area. Accommodation in Laos is not very cheap and this was one of the cheapest I found. If I was going to go to Laos again, I would consider staying here.

Great position with breakfast on the deck overlooking the Nam Khan river. Good sized room with large bathroom with good water pressure and reliable hot water. Large shower recess separate from toilet & hand basis, so shower did not wet the other parts of the bathroom which is common in modest priced hotels in Thailand & Laos. Clean and comfortable with large bed. Excellent same day laundry service at reasonable price. A few bicycles for hire. Friendly & helpful staff.

Room Tip: Upstairs balcony rooms have the view but the downstairs side entrance rooms are a great size and hav...

Refreshing to find a modest price ($30 - breadfast $3.50 extra). We had downstairs rooms on the side. good size rooms and bathrooms, good hot water, good beds. Breakfast on deck on Riverside very pleasant. Quiet location that many places in this delightful world heritage French colonial town. Excellent same day laundry service at reasonable prices.

We stayed here for 3 nights while in Luang Prabang and wished we stayed longer. The guesthouse is on the Nam Khan riverside in a very quiet part of Luang Prabang, but only a few minutes walk to many restaurants, and a few more mins to the night market area. I loved the tree lined street and view across the river.
We had the balcony room which had a lovely outlook to the river. The room was large and spacious with good air con, little fridge, TV etc. The wood panelling did make the room dark, but this didn’t bother us as we preferred to sit outside. The bed was very comfortable with fresh linen each day.
We did have problems with the bathroom. While it was large and in the ‘wet room’ style, the drain was blocked and we found the whole bathroom floor would get ‘flooded’ when showering. In fact, the area behind the toilet had a constant puddle. The sink’s plug device was not working so we had to pull it out to allow the water to drain. But despite these minor faults, the hot water was ample with good water pressure.
We had breakfast one day at the tables across the road which was OK but lacked variety and served stale thin sliced white bread (which is a shame given the beautiful breads and rolls available in LP). So we ate breakfast elsewhere even though it was included in our room rate.
Be warned about the steep steps up to the room from reception – we didn’t mind, but people who have any mobility issues would struggle and small children could easily take a tumble. Also, when you're catching a tuk-tuk, make sure you say the riverview guesthouse on the Nam Khan river as there are 2 other guesthouses with similar names - our poor tuk-tuk drove around for a while before finding someone who knew where it was to direct him.
All in all a comfortable stay at a lovely guesthouse.

This is a small guesthouse that we found after we checked out of our reserved hotel which was way out of town. We had a small room without a balcony as the room with the balcony was not available. It is very clean and comfortable although the beds are quite hard. It is in a great location overlooking the river and very close to all the temples and attractions in town. The price is very good. The staff was very helpful. We will definitely stay here again but reserve the room with the balcony that is much larger.
