Manichan Guesthouse
Ranked #6 of 265 Luang Prabang B&B and Inns
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed July 12, 2012

We were searching tripadvisor for good accommodation for our family with 2 little kids. Reading the reviews we booked at Manichan Guesthouse. Personally I don't belief the review of juk2728!!
Peter and Manichan are really friendly and very helpful. Both always take their time to point out the way to go. De rooms are good and clean. We had the family-room: 2 connected rooms, with air-conditioning if you want. These rooms had a shared bathroom, without any problems. Breakfast is great, ask for the omelet eggs! Peter and Manichan both are experts in food as they are chefs.
The guesthouse is located at a very good, quiet spot in the centre of Luang Prabang, 1 minute walk to Mekong River and 2-3 minutes to the night Market or the museum

So, please don't hesitate, but act now to book, because they are often fully booked with guest crying that they can not stay.

Room Tip: Al rooms good, even with shared bathroom.

Adequate if you're just after a basic room and place to sleep but personally didn't find it welcoming or comfortable. Host Manichan was friendly and attentive, Peter alot less so; in my opinion, not very approachable at all in fact. Unfortunately, a regretable stay.

Management response:Responded July 10, 2012

Everyday we have enthusiastic guests, most of them wanting to stay longer and congratulating us with a great stay they had. Most of them like our quiet and central location, the cleanliness of the room, the fancy bathrooms, the courtyard where the guests can meet up with each other drinking free coffee, teas or water.

This guest had chosen to stay for 6 nights in our cheapest 10$ single room with shared bathroom and without breakfast, but complaints about the lack of facilities..... must have been me not being enough "approachable"... I can't remember that I ran away from a guest that tried to approach me?

This is a fantastic Guesthouse and I highly recommend staying here if you are visiting Luang Prabang.

The facilities are simple but perfectly adequate & clean - we had air con, bathroom, and wi-fi. The breakfast is delicious - with home-made jam being the highlight.

It is only a short walk to the centre of Luang Prabang and the night market is very close (approx. 5 minute walk).

All the staff were very helpful and there was a nice relaxed atmosphere (particularly because of the communal area outside with free tea and water). There is also a communal computer (with skype) and a safe for valuable possessions (worth putting your passport etc in the safe if you visit the waterfalls).

I stayed at the Manichan for two nights in May and really liked the place. I was met by Peter who was very welcoming and full of useful information which was given over a nice chat during check in. All of the staff where friendly. The communal area was great for speaking to other guests or just sitting having a cool drink. The location is great. Market just a minute walk away and the river just as close. My room was modern, very clean, crisp sheets and everything worked. Breakfast was great. You can stay here knowing that you will be comfortable and secure.

The guest house is located on a small, quiet lane just off of the river. The breakfasts are the best anywhere. There is a communal area right outside the downstairs rooms which could have been noisy but wasn't when we were there. It is also very clean. The owner are extremely helpful in giving information or arranging things to do. Manichan was very friendly and helpful, Peter also but a bit less so.

Room Tip: The rooms were very nice and clean, but had absolutely nowhere to put things, and very little floor...

I'd planned to stay here for 3 days and found myself still there 10 days later. Very friendly and accommodating - Peter put up with my endless requests to extend my stay and was always willing to recommend activities and restaurants. The morning breakfast was fantastic and the communal seating led to a great group atmosphere with all the guests sharing experiences and tips.

The rooms themselves were basic but very clean and nicely decorated.

My brother and I stayed at Guesthouse Manichan for a week in July 2011. Its tucked in a narrow little lane, with direct access to the river and the main strip. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. There were a few other guests staying during our visit, but it always remained quiet. We already plan to return!
