“good quality and location and amazing breakfast”

I didn’t book anywhere to stay in LPB so when I got there I took a tuk tuk to show me the main street where most the guest houses are. This was near Joma - there were many guest houses and hotels near but New Daraphet Villa took my attention straight away, the outside was very tidy and the plants were kept neat. I asked how much the room was and they said $60 for a deluxe room so I took a look. The room was big enough for me and my partner and the bathroom had a bath which was a bonus, since most the places I have been in Laos and Asia don't supply this, and if they do it is much more expensive.

We settled in and the receptionist was very helpful - he said we had buffet breakfast included. So we spent the first night there. In the morning we woke up to find a very big layout of English food, Laos food, freshly fried eggs which were cooked right in front of you and different types of fresh fruit. I and my partner were very surprised and happy to see how much food they had supplied and very happy every day we stayed here.

In the day time it was very easy to get around as the road where the guest house was very near everything you wanted to see - and tuk tuk where always available to take me to visit different places or to take us to fantastic restaurants on the rivers. I would defiantly come back to New Daraphet Villa.

Arrived in Luang Prabang with no accomodation booked so after a quick look around, we settled on Daraphret Villas (my Lao home). It looked nice and seemed to be the only one where a rep wasn't hastleing us and following us down the street.

Now in Thailand we got some good walk in rates. This is obviously not the case here. We were told one night in their cheapest twin room would be $60(USD) with breakfast and $50 without. Being on a bit of a budget we opted for the $50 option with no breakfast.

Once in the room we were very unimpressed. No window to let natural light in giving it a very claustrophobic feel, especially as the room is tiny anyway! (Smallest we have stayed in so far) the bathroom walls and tiles were dirty and the room was so small that when taking a shower it is so close to the toilet that the toilet is pretty much in the shower with you.

We decided to check on their own website to see what rates they were charging. According to this, they charge $40 per night without breakfast, and $50 with breakfast included!!! We were so annoyed that we had been overcharged, but approached the reception with our concerns the next morning. The man on reception didn't understand (or was pretending not to understand) a word I said. We ended up going around and around in circles until he finally said that the prices on their website must be wrong! He was unwillinging and uninterested in helping us retrieve the money back that we had been overcharged.

The location is the only good thing about this hotel. You can get much better for your money elsewhere!! AVOID!!

Cosidering Laos is a developing country this hotel was a pleasant surprise. It doesn't have the facilities of a. City hotel but the bed was comfortable, the bathroom was large and the shower worked well. The room was well appointed in terms of air conditions and fans. It also had a safe. The Internet service didn't work more times than it did work but that was minor. Breakfast was adequate but of limited choice. There was a well priced spa service in the grounds. The hotel is villa style with upstairs and downstairs rooms. The location was perfect, walking distance to many attractions. At the top of the lane was a fantastic French coffee shop which had great coffee, the sunrise feeding of the monks was at the to of the lane as well as the daily markets and night markets. If you are looking for a resort type hotel this is not it but it was clean and comfortable and the setting was nice.

After reading some of the negative comments about this hotel, we are abit surprised the room turn out to be pretty nice. My mum likes the hotel. The bathroom is clean and spacious. We stayed at the ground floor, so there is not much of a view. Also beware of bringing sweet stuff into the room, as it will attract ants easily.

We like their breakfast too, with options for american breakfast, asian fried rice and porridge.

The hotel provides free WiFi, and we have no problem accessing it either.

Near the corner of the hotel is the Joma bakery cafe, they open daily from 10am and 10pm. And the hotel is minutes away from the street where alms are offered to the monks every morning.

We have enjoyed out stay Luang Prabang. Hope to visit it next year!

Stayed two nights as part of a Peregrine tour. This was our least favourite hotel of the tour. The rooms were not particularly clean, the bathroom smelt bad and the towels were threadbare and stained. Wifi was patchy in the rooms but fine in reception. The breakfast was nice but was the only thing I could make a positive comment about. An elderly couple in our group were badly ripped off when paying for their laundry which left a bad taste (the culprit did refund the money when questioned later). Given the range of other options in Luang Prabang, I would go elsewhere.

There are lots of lovely looking guesthouses down the road that will be cheaper and better quality than this hotel. The room needed a lick of paint and a good clean. The sheet and pillows were dirty on arrival. I had laundry done which was neither dried properly or ironed. Also with a resident cockroach in the bathroom I was pleased to leave. Unfortunately this was part of a tour trip so I could not move elsewhere.
