“Top casual & upscale get-away”
Reviewed January 13, 2011

Stayed 3 nights and will be back soon. Best location in town by far, with a real & up close view of the Mekong and its life. Also, the climate was perfect; a real Scandinavian summer! The hotel golf cart shuttles you off at any time; very convenient. Stayed in a superior with a cosy terrace where I spent hours reading and listening to the mighty river.
Free WiFi (who dares charging for it those days?) and a laptop for your use. No restaurant (expect for a very good breakfast) though one can order good quality snacks through reception delivered wrapped and tasty in 20 minutes; convenient. Coffee/tea/cookies complementary all day. For dining I recommend the Blue Lagoon where Swiss Peter caters for all with a smile.

The room is just what one needs and was kept spotless (and moskito-sprayed while you're out in the evening - no smell). Softs & water complementary in mini bar, LaoBeer ordered from reception at very reasonable price ($1.50) and it's good indeed! Great feature: the super comfy bed with its electric device that raises it for comfortable reading or raises the lower part - and there's nothing like taking a nap with your feet up after long strolls. Upscale bathroom amenities & good power shower.

Owner Mr. Urban Paulson and the Manager Daniel (both long time very knowledgable Swedish hospitality globetrotters) along with there Lao Staff were literally always at hand to welcome, assist, laugh and recommend (or discourage from easy first-timers mistakes).

Living in Indochina, I will most certainly be back for more. So should you!

Thank you for a rejuvenating and fun retreat!

This hotel is simply ideal. The staff were eager to help. The owner was gracious and personally welcoming. The location is simply the best in Luang Prabang – well within the World Heritage listed old town. The hotel is new, but faithfully built in the classic Luang Prabang style (to comply with UNESCO regulations). The only slight drawback of this old-world style is that some noise can carry from the upstairs units to the downstairs units through the gorgeous over-sized hardwood floors. But then again, the whole old town has a lovely village-like bustle about it which makes you feel like you’re a part of the place. I’m pretty sure every unit has uninterrupted views of the Mekong river. The balconies are a great place to enjoy high quality, yet super cheap room service, and waive to the many envious passers-by. From the moment you step out of the airport, you are greeted and enveloped in a very personal experience. This is the best hotel in the best holiday destination in the whole of Asia. I could go on and on, but you get the idea. Do yourself a favor, we’ll certainly be back!

As with many of the other reviews here, we found exceptionally friendly service at Mekong River View from all the staff, from the airport pick up to the day we left. The location is lovely and the hotel has been well designed in the Lao style. The rooms are very comfortable and all the amenities work well. Lots of nice touches; free soft drinks and water, free tea & coffee and afternoon cakes, free lifts around town, free bicycles to borrow. But the staff really made our stay memorable.

I have stayed in Luang Prabang before and saw the hotel under construction several years ago. It is located in the most ideal spot on the a point where the Mekong and a another smaller river join, in the historic part of town. It is modern, well designed yet retains local Laotian themes. The staff is well trained and standing by to help you with any requirement you may have. The breakfast is excellent with either a full up American, European or Asian selection to start the day. Great Laotian coffee and team is brewed and available throughout the day. Wi-Fi for those who have to stay connected is available as are loaner laptops. The owner/manager Mr. Urban Paulson is found on location throughout the day not only to greet guests but to ensure your stay is pleasant. and things run smoothly. We selected a balcony room facing the Mekong River and could not have been happier. Luang Prabang is known for its many temples and shops (not nightlife) and the mornings on the point are so quiet and peaceful that you feel you have to speak in hushed tones to ensure you don't spoil the moment - Library Rules Apply. You will find this hotel to be unique in LP and will provide you with a wonderful lodging experience in a unique part of the world.

This place is absolutely perfect. It is not that hard these days to find a hotel with a nice room (we stayed in another hotel in Luang Prabang with a great room - Belle Rive which was also great), but what sets this apart from others is the personal touch, service and homely feeling. For a start the rooms are really nice (they are much better than what they look like on the website - they are underselling themselves). They are spotlessly clean and a good size. The bathrooms are a good size. The towels are very fluffy. The balcony is excellent - very comfortable to sit on and large. The beds are comfortable, there is a TV for those who want it (we didn't need it but some other hotels in Luang Prabang don't offer it for those who want it). The personal touches included things like the first evening where the owner offers wine for those who want to meet him and other guests - it is very cosy and a nice touch. The local staff are all excellent - very friendly and attentive - they anticipate every need before you even ask. The breakfast was excellent - they have some buffet selection as well as a la carte choice. The seating on the balconies for breakfast are nice. They provide unlimited tea, coffee and cake in a lounge room type atmosphere that is the 'lobby'. They provide unlimited soft drinks and water in your mini bar. You can order wine, beer, snacks etc to your room and the prices are extremely reasonable ($15 for a bottle of wine, $2 for peanuts). They also do washing extremely cheaply (we wish we knew before we arrived). There is free wi fi internet. They give a free colour map of the town with all the restaurants and shops marked. The two tours we went on that were organised through the hotel were excellent - the village tour that we asked for although not their standard was great. They provide an electric golf buggy to take you anywhere in town and/or to your restaurant. We felt guilty using it initially but we were encouraged to do so, and they will book restaurants for you. The rooms are completely bug free, they put fresh flowers everywhere daily. The location is excellent on the peninsula you can just walk and walk for ages and it is beautiful and very handy to everything yet extremely quiet as it is at the end of the peninsula. We have only been to one other hotel that had service as good as this place (Tiger Mountain Pokhara Lodge, Pokhara, Nepal - see our review). We stayed in the Superior mekong river view room. It is very memorable and we will recommend it to all. Do not stay elsewhere in Luang Prabang. The owner is a perfectionist and puts a lot of effort into trying to make one's stay perfect as do all the staff.

We had read Trip Advisor reviews for this hotel, then a friend recommended it too. Our expectations were high, and we were not disappointed. We stayed during our whistlestop 4 week tour of SE Asia, during which time we stayed in a number of lovely hotels - but this was the best of the best. The location is lovely, it is always nice to overlook a river, esp in Luang Prabang which is a gem of a place. Our room was bright, welcoming, well furnished and clean. Breakfasts were wonderful, with a wide selection of beautifully prepared & fresh healthy food. But the hotel excels on 4 points. 1) The beds are fantastically comfortable (so much so we're intending to replace our expensive bed at home with one) 2) Everything is included in the price, taxi to/from airport, breakfasts, hot & soft drinks, cycle use, use of golf buggy, use of laptop etc. This makes guests feel that they are, well, guests. 3) The owner Urban invites new guests to join him for a glass of wine. This was an interesting opportunity to meet a few other guests from around the world and broke the ice between guests. 4) and most importantly, the staff are a wonderful group of people, expertly managed. Daniel the manager has an easy rapport with guests and spends time helping visitors to get the most out of their stay in Luang Prabang. Some of the other staff are former Buddhist monks and it shows, they are calm, helpful and considerate (remembering room numbers, offering lifts when they saw guests on the other side of the town, remembering that you wanted something one day and asking if you wanted it the next, willing & able to answer questions & make decisions) all without being deferential which we found in the other good hotels we stayed in. Not surprisingly a number of guests were on return trips. We hope to be in their number one day.

The hotel is really nice and in a great location. However, the best of the hotel are the owner, Urban, and the manager, Daniel, were amazingly helpful.
Urban organized a happy hour with the guests at the hotel, gave us a great introduction to Luang Prabang, and allowed all of us to meet interesting people and exchange ideas.
Daniel gave us a warm welcome asked what we wanted to do and, on short notice, organized a great day trip for us to visit some hill tribes and helped us plan our stay in LP.
I would not stay anywhere else in LP.
