“Wonderful hotel perfect location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 15, 2013

We stayed here for five nights in June, and had a fantastic time. From the moment we arrived the staff could not do enough for us, even giving two members of our party a free upgrade so we could have adjoining rooms. We were on the ground floor so could join the verandas together for evening aperitifs. The breakfasts were excellent, and the view over the Mekong river stunning, we spent many a leisurely hour just watching the river . We cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. We had considered la Residence but decided on this hotel to be closer into town and we had great fun trying all sorts of different places to eat - recommended by the hotel, and all of them excellent . A wonderful introduction to Lao .

Room Tip: we had the ground floor room with the swedish bath, an unusual experience but very well appointed .

The hotels in LP are all traditional wooden buildings, lovely to look at but creaky. So make sure you have the room upstairs with no one else above you or all you'll hear all night are creaky footsteps. The location of this hotel is a little far from the centre of the historic part of LP. Absolutely walkable but dark at night, so you'll either have to take a tuk tuk back or call for the Hotel golf cart to pick you up. Service is very good and breakfast is quite lovely, especially the view of the Mekong and Khan Rivers. Our room had a tiny toilet (the door slammed against your knees, and I'm only 5ft 3in!) and it opened directly into the room with no external ventilation, very odd and rather uncomfortable for a number of obvious reasons. The shower did not a ledge on the floor, so unless you hugged the wall while showering, you'd get the whole bathroom pretty wet.

Room Tip: Wood floors are creaky so get the 2nd floor rooms.

We stayed here for 6 nights from 1st May 2013. We were met at the airport by their staff and taken to the hotel where, we were met by Hedvig (reservations manager). We were given cold towels and a welcome drink. She then gave us a map detailing places of interest, restaurants, spas etc which, they could make arrangements for you. We were then shown to our room (junior suite), WOW! it was outstanding, with all the amenities you could think of. The bathroom was beautifully furnished. The beds were amazingly comfortable, Swedish style, with remote control so you could adust it to however it suited you.

The hotel is situated on a quiet road (very little traffic) with amazing views over the Mekong River, you could just sit on your balcony watching the world go by, at times it was so quiet in the evening you could hear a pin drop.

The restaurant was situated just across the road, on the side of the river with outstanding views where, the two rivers meet. The food was excellent. It was beautiful having a leisurely breakfast under the shade of the palms watching the river meandering down and the fishing boats. It was heaven.

The owner gave a wine reception twice a week which, gave you the opportunity to meet other travellers.

They also have a golf buggy to drop you off anywhere in town (free of charge). There is also free use of the bicycles.

All the staff were brilliant, they could not do enough for you, nothing was too much trouble for them, they made our stay so relaxing and memorable.

Would definetly recommend staying here, far better than the big unpersonal hotels.

Room Tip: Junior suite, 2nd floor, fantastic views from the balcony over the Mekong River and excellent room f...

We stayed 4 nights at this hotel and the experience was wonderful. The owner and staff could not do enough to make our stay enjoyable. The laundry service was excellent (don't bother with the ones on the street) and very prompt. I loved the electric beds as I was able to read and work on my ipad comfortably. The only thing I would change is to have a hand basin in the toilet area rather than a urinal.

Probably not the cheapest hotel in town, but we can not fault it. Excellent customer service, beautiful views of river and mountains. The breakfast terrace is a treat and a great way to start the day. The owner takes an active interest in pleasing guests, and staff are lovely. Electric beds in nice big rooms, and a golf buggy at your disposal for longer trips around town. Close to beautiful scenery, Main Street, cafes, etc. Luang Prabang is a gorgeous town. We went in May, so tourist numbers were down, and weather was still good. We would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: We were upstairs overlooking the river and mountains. I think all rooms offer these views, but you m...

We spent 4 nights in the Mekong Riverview Hotel in a Superior Suite Side view over Easter. The hotel is perfectly situated on the river front and our room was located up about 25 steps to the rear of the property. The room itself was very spacious with very comfortable twin beds, good sized lounge area, extensive balcony with seats from which there was a partial view of the Mekong, spa bath and large shower, effective air conditioning, satellite tv and free wifi. What more could you ask for! Well they provided tea/coffee and homemade cakes in reception which were brought to our room when we arrived back from our excursions and had a good restaurant on the river bank 50 meters or so from reception. Here a good quality breakfast was provided as well as other meals and welcoming drinks hosted by the owner. It was so peaceful and quiet looking out at the locals tending to the vegetable gardens on the river flats and going about their activities on the Mekong and Nam Khan rivers which join just below the restaurant.

The staff were friendly and helpful with any query and in providing information about touring options. The hotel was able to accommodate a late checkout which was much appreciated so we could freshen up after a morning excursion and before heading to the airport for a late afternoon flight.

In summary this hotel is highly recommended and will definitely be our choice again on any future visit.

We had stayed at the more expensive Residence, years ago, too far removed from town. This time, we decided to stay at Mekong River View, because of its excellent reviews and river view location. We're glad we did!

The hotel is tops in all respects, without an ounce of pretension. The staff is friendly and eager to please. Welcoming receptions and breakfasts are served at the hotel's gloriously beautiful restaurant on the river.

Room Tip: We loved our room with a balcony overlooking the river.
