“lovely hotel- the urinal spoilt it for me”
Reviewed January 3, 2013

This is a lovely place in a gorgeous part of Asia- aboslutely loved Luang Prabang. We were met as arranged at the airport and taken the short distance to the hotel. Our room was ground floor which meant that sitting in our pation felt too much like being on the pavement- but a great view nonetheless. Our room was comfortable and and clean but I absolutely hated the urinal by the toilet- an ill-advised idea and the reason the place gets 4 not 5 rating.
Breakfast was great across the road and about a 100m down overlooking the Khan and Mekong rivers. Staff were superb
We enjoyed our 2 nights here but personally the urinal put me off so much I couldn't stay there again

Dear Mrs KP58

We are thrilled to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us at the Mekong RiverView Hotel. We work very hard on being an environmentally friendly hotel.
In regards to this we have for example changed;
- all our lights to LED to reduce the waste of electricity
- double drainage in our bathrooms to reduce the waste of water
- we have changed all of our plastic bags to fabric bags
Last and not least we keep the urinals in addition to the toilet in our rooms to reduce the waste of water. The usage of a urinal is 0.5 liters, this is in comparison to a normal lavatory with the usage of 5 liters.
We are so sorry that this has caused you inconvenience and really hope that bearing the above in mind would consider coming back to us.

Best Regards
Urban Paulsson, The Owner

This is a lovely hotel in one of the most peaceful little cities in SE Asia, a perfect place to relax and unwind for a few days. The rooms are comfortable if rather basic but the location is excellent, the staff warm and competent, and the breakfast on the terrace overlooking the junction of the two rivers excellent. I'd give it 5 rather than 4 if the bathrooms and toilet were better, but given the nature of the property these would be difficult to improve.

We have just spent three nights in this hotel and cannot fault it.
There was an initial problem with our room on arrival but this was quickly remedied by the manageress.

The owner has obviously spent a lot of money on this hotel and the internal fittings are to a very high quality.

The food in the restaurant is good and of a similar price to other venues in the town.

The free airport transfers are an added bonus.

Thank you to all the staff for a pleasant stay.

Luang Prabang is quite possibly the most charming town in SE Asia. We recently spent six days here and did not want to leave. Located on the edge of the peninsula in the historic Old Town, Mekong Riverview is a haven of tranquility and hospitality. The owner and his staff are true ambassadors as they greet you personally upon arrival and help to acquaint each guest with the very best that LP has to offer. Mr. Urban's suggestions are authentic and helpful. His restaurant features the best views at the convergence of the Mekong & Nam Khan rivers - inspiring and magical. A lifelong hotelier originally from Sweden, Mr. Urban is onsite everyday to ensure that guests are taken care of. It's the little things that make a difference: the staff sourced a small bicycle for our son to use during the vacation, they arranged a car & driver to take us several hours south to our next destination, wine evenings were hosted for hotel guests to meet one another and fresh flowers were brought into our room unexpectedly.

Room Tip: Second story rooms feature amazing Mekong River views.

Service - all staff are super friendly (you even get a personalised check-in with the owner who goes through the map of Luang Prabang with you and points out the hidden areas, good restaurants etc).
Room - decor is not to my taste but that is a personal preference. It was all very clean and there was a really useful handbook in there about alms ceremony etiquette which was very useful. Also some nice brief history books.
Beds - I thought at first it was quite odd to have a bed that moves up and down like a hospital bed but actually it's quite handy when reading.
Amenities - slippers were provided but were not in plastic (environmental I guess) but then I wasn't sure if they were clean or not. I am sure they were but I used my own that I liberated from the hotel in Bangkok before I arrived in Luang Prabang. Other amenities are bare but this is a common trait of all Luang Prabang hotels so just bring your own things eg make-up remover pads. Conditioning shampoo and shower gel was provided and were really top quality. The amount of amenities was fine but not luxurious (only one bar of soap etc). I am not meaning to complain as the amount provided was adequate just saying be prepared and bring your own things.
Cleanliness - can't complain the room was cleaned to a high standard
Mosquitos - there were none in my room / on the balcony when I went Nov 2012. Note bring your own mosquito spray as none provided.
DVD collection - poor but I am sure hardly anyone watches DVDs in the hotel. I borrowed a DVD polayer from reception and the staff were so kind they brought it up in the rain and were really friendly about letting me keep it for a few days. I also took up a kettle to my room.
Afternoon tea - free cake (just one sort) and tea and coffee are available each afternoon. One day the cakes were delicious and the next it was sort of bland and not so good but really it is a nice treat to have a cup of tea and a cake.
Breakfast - is al fresco and the view is of the confluence of two rivers. It's really an amazing view. Lots of ants on the table and around. Not the hotel's fault. The 'special' is freid banana in sugar and a friend pineapple ring - basic but delicious!!! Banana smoothie was great too - so healthy and fresh.
Bikes - free (locks need some attention as some of them are stiff) but it is lovely to ride into town as it's easy and only 10 minutes away. It was bliss - really do try them!
I liked this place. It was like home. Not trendy but very high standard if I think about it.

We recently spent a wonderful weekend in Luang Prabang, staying at the Riverview Hotel.
We were met at the airport and received a warm, cordial welcome on arrival.
Our accommodation was 5 star, a big spacious room with an enormous bathroom with a very efficient aircon system, (which is an essential).
Breakfast is served in a dining room overlooking the Mekong river and the service impeccable.
The owner also invited us for a wine tasting at sunset, which was a nice gesture in being able to meet and greet some of the other visitors, from all parts of the world.
Highly recomended.
