Description: Located in a building from the 60s, near the banks from the Mekong, the Restaurant “L'Elephant” offers an essentially "falang" (French) Menu with a small selection of Lao Dishes since 2000. From the home-made charcuterie to the duck breast roasted with “Mak Toum” or the Burgundy snails, L'Eléphant offers you original French family style cuisine. L'Eléphant restaurant cooks typical Lao dishes for you; dried meats and river weed as an aperitif, soups, grills or fish wrapped in banana leaves… Home-made breads and pastries, wines, spirits, ciders and a selection of beers complete the offer of this old-fashioned restaurant, chic, classy yet simple with its wooden floors and local wooden furniture. Relaxed atmosphere; casual attire! Open daily for lunch and dinner! Home made pastries and drinks all the day long ! You can choose from the à la Carte, our set menus or opt for the daily menu (110 000 kips for 3 dishes)! We are looking forward to welcome you!

L'Elephant is quite a formal restaurant and serves a range of good dishes at international prices ie very expensive by Laotian standards. The food was good albeit modest portions. A lot of French influence (typical of Luang Prabang as a whole e.g. architecture) and when it comes to food, it is difficult to beat the French!!! We actually only had a snack followed by a delicious dessert. Plenty of choice on the large menu of both food and wine. Good and friendly service. My wife tells me the loos (toilets) were very clean so I better add that! Our visit didn't really do justice to the restaurant as most people would linger over a three or four course dinner, but what we saw we certainty liked. Probably best to reserve a table in advance as this one appears in all the guide books and gets booked up pretty quickly.

The greatest French I've ever experienced and couldn't have even thought of a greater tasting meal. I loved every bit of it and the French Onion Soup will be hard to repeat.

Good value tasting meal of Laos specialities, particularly liked the steamed fish in banana leaf with dill and the ginger ice cream with dessert. Good value wine list compared to Thailand also.

this restaurant came recommended to us by friends back home in the states. we are two girls traveling together in our mid 20's and are always trying to save a buck! but we decided to splurge on this meal and it was worth every penny. and i hate to say this, but one of our highlights was the refilling of free water!!! when traveling in SEA free water is always an added bonus. the food was delicious. the french flare was present in every dish, but had amazing Lao flavor. we had a appetizer from the specials which was almost like a pastry puff with chicken, sausage, and mushrooms with an incredible sauce. this may have been one of the most amazing things we ate in all of southeast asia. the meat was incredible as well. my friend had the beef stew and i believe i had the pork chop. cooked to perfection. i also recommend the mashed potatoes. we had a craving and it definitely fulfilled it and more!
