“Great food in a great setting”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 23, 2013

I have been eating at L'Elephant since they opened over ten years ago. The restaurant is set in a colonial period-style building which is open along two walls.

It is always a delight to dine here. The service is courteous and attentive. It is often very crowded so one has to wait for a table or dine in their small space that normally serves a raw menu.

Classic French and Lao cuisine are offered. The owners grow their own vegetables and herbs and source other foods locally when possible. A variety of meats, fish, and vegetarian courses are available. There is a changing daily menu as well as set menus if one doesn't want to dine a la carte.

The chocolate mousse is my favourite!

“Wonderful Lao-French”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 23, 2013

With a week in Luang Prabang we decided to go for classic French food for one meal and we were not disappointed. An excellent Bordaux-Medoc (best of our trip) was a pleasant surprise. The specials of the evening were very good - an outstanding warm pureed veggie soup had a dash of Lao flavor. Our main courses of duck and (I succumbed) entrecote de boeuf were delicious. All the vegetables and herbs are picked fresh daily from the restaurants own gardens on the outskirts of town.

Service was very good. The atmosphere fits Luang Prabang... a wide open veranda with teak furniture. Nothing fancy but it really works

“Very good!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 21, 2013

We enjoyed our dinner here, our last dinner in Lao. We didn't eat traditional Lao food, but it was a treat to have fine cuisine-- and we chatted a lot with fellow travelers at adjacent tables. We sat on the little patio, and it was very pleasant to watch people go by, as we waited. Good presentation, attentive service, good food.

“Very good food busy restaurant”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 19, 2013

This restaurant was busy little place and no wonder the food was delicious. I had the best coq au vin I have ever eaten, certainly not average by my book. My only criticism is that the tables for two are really a bit too close together at the front of the restaurant but then there is a demand so who can blame them? Reserve as there is a demand for this restaurant we couldnt get in on the first night.

“Average French Food”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 16, 2013

Nothing realy waow in this restaurant, no decoration just tables. Concerning the food better go to La Belle Epoque at the Luang Say Hotel. We had a untasty terrine of boar, followed by a duck which was really tough with a undescrible sauce full of cornstach. Dessert are alo not really interesting.
