There are a lot of overpriced hotels in Luang Prabang, certainly if you compare LP with Chiang Mai. So, carefully select your hotel or B&B in this city. Villa Saykham gives value for your money.
We stayed here for 4 nigths at 55$/night including breakfast, november 2011, after slowboat trip from Thailand. Centrally located but quiet in a side street, 400m from Royal Palace and other temples, 100m from Mekong river. Villa Saykham opened in 2007 : 2 blocks, each of the blocks ground level and first floor, total : 10 double and 5 triple rooms. Although our room was not particularly large (25m²), the room was super clean, bright and comfortable. Good and clean bed, sheets and pillows. Silent airco, fridge, TV CNN. Free WIFI. Very clean and good bathroom. Good make-to-order breakfast in open secluded courtyard.
Concering the drums in the wat at 4.00AM : during my other visits to Thailand I think that drums are only used during 2 early mornings of fullmoon (and possibly also during new moon).

Luang Prabang is a fantastic place to visit and these villas are the place to stay. The rooms are large and clean with air con and good quality bathrooms. We were at the back of the complex and enjoyed views over the monastery and very little noise, even from the morning drums. Breakfast is served in the courtyard under spreading vines by the very friendly and welcoming staff. Location is perfect, just off the main street and a short stroll to either river and to the night markets. No need for any form of transport at all. The daily monk parade even passes the front door. There are many larger accommodation places in town but non reach the level of seclusion found here. A definite must if you are visiting.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back

A very nice place located in the quieter part of the city--right next door to a wat. The monks walked past on their "morning rounds" seeking alms every morning. The room was not large, but was clean and quiet (we did not hear the wat's drum mentioned in some earlier reviews). The courtyard where breakfast is served is a very nice setting for a meal, and the food was tasty. Service was prompt and friendly.

Stayed 5 nights in this beautiful "guest house". Rooms, food, staff were excellent and the garden a haven to have breakfast and relax.
Very quiet location, although little noise from the Wat next doors.
Good value for money.
Price maybe too high for backpackers, but worth every Kip.
Luang Prabang is a world heritage site and a well deserved designation. A french influence to the town with good restaurants and food.

Villa Saykham is great Value for the Money - we had a spacious Room in the back, with a clean bathroom. There was extra Space for the shower, and a shower curtain - most Hotels in Laos in this Price Range have the shower right Next to the sink or Toilette (and you get the whole Room wet when showering), so this was Great.

The Location is exzellent, in a Side Street of the Main road, right in the Center. Normally very quiet, but in the Weekend the Monks of the neighbouring Temple drum at 4 am, so bring ear plugs.

Breakfast was okay, eggs and bread, but no noodle soup. But service is good, on the second Morning they extra made soup for us, After we had asked the First Morning.

The Staff do Not speak English very well, French Seems to Be easier, but we could make ourselves understood.

All in all, Villa Saykham is a very good Place to stay!
