Me (67) and my friends (couple 79/72) were very happy in the spacious 2 rooms on the upper floor for 7 and10 nights. Rooms had fridge, TV (with Deutsche Welle, CNN, BBC and many other channels), AC, WLAN, hot water in the bathroom.

Friendly staff, helpful female manager, speaking a very good English (and perfect Lao... ;-)). She can organize almost everything you could need about your stay or trip.

Breakfast included and freshly prepared.

I hope to be back again because I liked the peaceful atmosphere of Luang Prabang and the wonderful climate in November 2010 (sunny and warm in the daytime, cool in the evening). Great trip!

We stayed there twice, once in the upstairs deluxe room, then when we came back to Luang Prabang in a downstairs standard. The deluxe was very big and tastefully decorated, dark wooden floors. Bathroom not as nice as the room but clean. The standard room was also fine. The lady owner was lovely and attentive. We were initially worried about the longish walk to town but after a couple of days we had got used to the walk and didn't mind. Overall excellent value for money (we say a lot of other rooms in more central hotels so we can compare confidently).

Stayed here for three nights. Was part of an Intrepid tour but had the room to myself. Lovely place to stay. No TV or fridge but they do have wi-fi. Also have bicycle hire at fair price.

The rooms are quite small but very comfortable. The staff are exceptionally nice and help you with everything. They do laundry there but there's a place 2 blocks away for about 8000kip/kg. The location is a gentle 10 minute walk to the night markets. But everything in LP is reachable by foot or bicycle, so not a problem.

Only warning is there's a place a block away that hosts weddings. We had two weddings over the three nights. So be warned to bring ear plugs. You'll also wake up to roosters in the mornings.

They also provide breakfast.

I read about this place while reading an article on Laos in Budget Travel magazine. They gave it a favorable so I decided to try it.

The villa is located about a fifteen minute walk from the center of town. We stayed in a deluxe room, located on the 2nd floor. Breakfast is included, and served outside under a wooden roof. It made the meal enjoyable as there is something peaceful about having an "outdoor" meal under an overcast sky, which it was during our three days there.

Getting back to the room it was spacious and clean, which is an important attribute for us. But as with any place that you stay at, service plays an essential part in providing an overall impression. And that is where this place excels. When my wife was not feeling well one day, I asked Viang, the wonderful hotel manager, for a cup of ginger tea. To my pleasant surprise and my wife's appreciation she gave us a pot of the tea. And she asked me several times afterwards to find out how my wife was feeling.

Bikes are available to rent, and that is a way to really see the city, not just the tourist part. Laundry service is also available. It was enjoyable place to stay and ask Viang for her advice. I still need to go to the noodle place (where the locals go) that she recommended!

I am a regular guest to Villa Suanmak. It offers a good friendly atmosphere. The room is clean. Nice spacious garden in front of the guesthouse offers you a peaceful area to read or enjoy your own activity. Though it is located in the center, VS offers you a quiet space both days and nights. No construction going on around you. Looking around the other choices with the same budgeted guesthouse, VS would be much better option.

It's pity for only a few guests who did not have a good experience at this place put those bad comments for VS.

Definitely voted for new visitors who look for a real atmosphere of Luang Prabang.

with my family we stay at Villa Suan Maak in September for 6 nights, at first sight seems pretty guesthouse, but then we realized that it is a place where they never return, cleaning bad thing is that we have encountered in both Rooms (deluxe) that we had booked, we have often seen the dust on the furniture of the room for several days, the bathroom then it is better not say anything, speak the photos you can see. Breakfast is only very little coffee, bread, butter and jam, some fruit or juice are all extra pay, the guesthouse is far from the center of the city, we must always take a tuk uk to get downtown in the last price 30 U.S. dollars per night, very dear to Luang Prabang for the same price we were well into two beautiful rooms in the guesthouse Villa Phathana close to the city center

As frugal but comparatively well-off 50 year old Australians, we were charmed with dignified Laos and particularly with unique Luang Prabang. This visit was enhanced by this charming guesthouse stay in their best air-con front d/room with balcony, set in quiet suburbia only 10 minutes walk from the city centre. Vieng, the family's welcoming older daughter together with her staff, made us feel honoured guests. Her touring tips, the French colonial villa's bathroom facilities and sat. TV all worked fine.

  • Liked — Facilities worked, staff quietly charming, close to city centre, suburban area
  • Disliked — My builder husband would love to restore the colonial villa.
