My family and I stayed at this hotel over the New Year period.
One of the best things was probably the location - you not only have a view of the river but are also 50m from the main street and shops/restaurants etc. We loved being able to just go around the corner and be in the middle of things.
My daughter had a deluxe room and it was great - super spacious room and bathroom. Very light and airy and lots of room. However her room was across the street from ours (warning to families) and did not have any wifi access.
My husband and I shared a Premier River View room and the balcony was lovely however the room was much smaller than my daughter's and very dark. Even the bathroom was dark and small. The furnishing is nice however we had about 4 moose heads/antlers in our room. We had wifi in our rooms however.
As the hotel is an old house the noise does travel alot from room to room but I think this is similar to most places in Luang Prabang.
Breakfast is lovely on the river and the rooms were very very clean with complimentary minibar.
The cons are - no in room phone/room service or compendium as well as no pool or gymnaisum.

This hotel is very nice and comfortable. The service at times is a wee bit slow, but then Laos on the whole is a bit slow!
We had the VIP room and it was lovely, beautiful in fact.
The only issue was the wi-fi does not work in this room and I heard loads of excuses, but they never fixed it. But still that is only a minor problem as the wi-fi is more than sufficient in the main hotel lobby and even on the terrace across the road!
Breakfast is ok and no complaints.
Sometimes coffee was cold, but generally in Laos I found this happened a lot, so not really an issue as just asked them to heat it up...problem solved!
Staff are very friendly and what they lack in experience they make up for in manners!

We enjoyed staying in this hotel in the gorgeous town of Luang Prabang.
Our downstairs room was good for me as I have a disability and it was very comfortable. Tea & Coffee making not available so that would have been a plus.
Our room which was quite dark was very restful & comfortable built using Teak beams and furnished nicely with reproduction antiques.
Breakfast served overlooking the river and a village on the other side was spectacular, we just sat for ages looking and listening. The staff were charming and helpful.
The smallish but beautiful entrance foyer to the hotel was furnished with what looked like
real antiques. We enjoyed staying at this lovely hotel, we plan to return next year in November when the weather is excellent.

The Chang Heritage is perfectly located in central Luang Prabang, and extremely attractive with its facade of ochre-colored stucco and dark tropical wood balconies and shutters. It's particularly stunning at night, with strategically-placed indirect lighting glinting off of the two vintage black Mercedes that always sit in front.

But appearances can be deceiving, and we discovered early on into our first day that the Chang's beauty is only skin deep.

Though friendly and anxious to be of service, the desk staff are not appropriately trained for a hotel at this price point, and have very limited English-language skills. As a result, even simple requests such as that the maid replenish the toiletries, or that we receive a wake-up call (or knock, actually, since there are no phones in the room) went unanswered.

The hotel advertises itself as having wireless internet throughout, but if that's the case, it never functioned durng our 5-day stay. Since we needed to have contact with our offices each day, the staff did arrange for a cable connection to be set up in the breakfast room. It was reasonably fast and reliable, but far from satisfactory, since the breakfast room had no air conditioning or fans, and there were often other guests anxiously waiting for the opportunity to use that same single connection.

The rooms themselves are spacious (we were in a premier river view), but quite dark, particularly in the bathroom. They are also very oddly furnished, with a curious mish-mash of modern reproduction Thai and Laotian decor, supplemented with an attic-load of French antiques (cut-glass vases and bowls, non-functioning old clocks, big porcelain urns). We would gladly have traded all of the tchotskies for a second chair, and more light. Hot water at the bathroom lavatory would also be nice.

All in all, an extremely poor value for a SE Asian hotel at this price point. The physical plant and location certainly have great potential, but this place is badly in need of new management.

Lovely hotel with the best of service. No Noise etc. LP sees alot of hippie backpackers on the main street but this place sits over the river showing rural Lao life from a Five Star venue. Lao river style fisherman and garden makers mad for a great morning view. Lovely breakfast overlooking the river. Room done in dark wood. Very Lao and very lovely. Much like Norther West Thailand's Lana style. Staff was quite good. I live in Thailand so easy to get about but the level of English is very good. At Chang Heritage I found things unique as in a world class hotel. Lovely sitting room with an amazing Cognac collection. Should have brough a few few Cubans to smoke. The internet was very good, even by Thai metro standards. The day reception person, a heart breaker. Great english, very helpful and totally lovely. That would be Thip, very poised for a mere 20 years old! I'll go back. BTW, very quiet and dark for a good pm nap as it is warm. About like Phuket (home for me) in April. the two vintage black Benz parked next to the riverside dining area made it outstanding. I find hotels that there are unique have a charm only to them selves as is with ther Chang Heritage Although it is small, (come on it is Lao) I find the charm on par with the Del Coronada in San Diego and the Awhanee in Yosemite Valley, sans the big prices for the aforementiioned. You are immersed in Lao culture and art throughout the hotel For those who were not enchanted I would say that hotel afficionados find it a splendor and for those who missed the mystique it is a true loss.. More that one thousand wonderful Objets de Art. Lauang Prabang is well worth a visit and do greatly enhance you time there by staying at the Chang Heritage, a remarkable hotel in a World Heritage local! I would go back just to enjoy a respite in a very peaceful place. Well worth the price,
