“Karachi Pakistan "Montezumas Revenge"”
Reviewed April 1, 2010

My Navy ship of about 400 personnel pulled into Karachi. We were told not to drink the water and be careful what you eat.
Sailors were told to drink only canned products and not the local water. Being creative they did just that but put ice into their drinks to cool them down. After pulling out of Port 85% of the crew had diharea, stomach aches, and were barfing water and not being able to hold anygthing down after eating for about a week or more.

Two weeks out to see we saw the aircraft carrier Kitty Hawk and asked where they were going to for a port call and they stated
" KarachI". They were wondering why we were rolling on the decks laughing and pointing at them. !! : ) : ) Their ship had a complement of 4000 or more !!!

“KARACHI IS RICH IN CULTURE AND FANTASTIC IN FOOD.”
Reviewed April 16, 2009

I was really amaze to see "W-11" a public transport mini bus in karachi. The art work, the decoration and hand engraved steel work was a worth to look that. The city is rich in culture and i saw the great cultural heritage, specially in old city areas. The food is fantastic, tasty and cheap.Abundance of fresh fruits and vegetables at a very very cheap rates is also a plus point.I enjoyed more than a dozen species of sweet and ripe, fresh mangoes.
I saw very nice pics and videos about Karachi at a blog that is :

“The City of Lights”
Reviewed August 10, 2008

Karachi, or the city of lights, as it is called, is truly the most happening place in Pakistan. Besides being the hub of financial activity, Karachi offers visitors excellent treats in cuisine, shopping, arts and crafts, music, sports.

Contrary to common advice, Karachi is a very safe city for travellers. It is perfectly alright for women to travel alone. You will find most people helpful and respectful. When in busy areas though, you're advised to take care of your personal belongings, as you would in New York, Paris, Rome Cairo, Mumbai.

A good place to start when going around in Karachi is: [--]

“Best place to get bargains as well as get ripped”
Reviewed May 5, 2008

Karachi holds a variety of shopping places, for thrifty bargain hunters and for exclusive designer wearers.
Zainab market is the best place for bargains, while areas like Zamzama are best if you want to deal with exclusivity.

Where you seek a bargain, keep in mind that the prices are rarely fixed, and it is up to the skill of the shopper to bargain. However, in many places the prices are very reasonable without any need to bargain. So, in light of such contradiction, the best appproach is to search and then buy.

If you are looking for designer western wear, Zamzama is the place. Boutiques like Romails, Cotton and Cotton, cater to your finest sense of design and material.

If you are looking for designer eastern wear for men, then Amir Adnan, Aijazz, Romails are all names with stuff to swoon over. Ladies have numerous options;Designers, Deepak Parwani are all options that can be considered.

If you are looking for electronic stuff, then Saddar is the best place to go, although it may be a bit congested for the foreign taste.

So, all in all, Karachi has a shopping experience that will leave behind any experience in other countries in terms of varieties of offer.

“Great Trip To Karachi”
Reviewed May 17, 2005

Karachi has got a lot of bad press in recent years. Hence it is not on anyone's trip iteniary. But for NRI's and NRP's it should be a "must see" city of the Sub-Continent. I was surprised at what I discovered. From great shopping ..at un-believable price and variety ( especially cottons, carpets, jewelery and leather jackets ). Food for the sub-continental types was out of the world. Starting from street food at Burns Road to the swanky "Lal Qila" just about every taste was available. For the interested golfer like me, Karachi offers some great courses especially the new palm beach Golf Course as well as the one in the DHA area. Crabbing and off shore scuba diving is also great. If you get the chance then the beaches ahead of Somiani are faboulous...but rather more enjoyable in the cooler months ( November to March)
Plan a trip to karachi and see for yourself. A great family place especially for the ladies.
