I stayed at Hotel Mehran this past October and I must say everything was great from check-in to check-out. Great hotel staff and took good care of you. Everyone was so nice. If I ever go back to Karachi I will definitely be staying their again.

Room Tip: if you're looking for a more quiet experince, choose a room looking to the back of the hotel and...

Friendly staff, nice food, slighlty over-priced. But secure and comfortable for short stay.

If you are visiting Karachi, this is a nice place to stay. Staff is very friendly and extremely helpful. Accomodations are simple, but more than adequate. Very clean. The AC works well and is loud enough to drown out the loud city noise and early morning call to prayer. Pricing is great, especially room service. We would have tea and cookies delivered each morning for about 160 rupees, which works out to less than $2.00. There are 2 restaurants which serve good, traditional Pakistani foods. We would have them serve our pot of water for tea and coffee from the kitchen instead of the warmer on the buffet. Seemed to be hotter and therefore safer to drink. Speaking of drinking water I would use bottled water to brush your teeth and keep your mouth closed when you are taking a shower. And, a hint for any third world country...make sure all bottled water is sealed before you drink it.
We felt extremely safe at this hotel. There have been hotel bombings in the past, but they are usually targeted at the bigger, more American hotels.
The hotel has a money changer downstairs, but if you are changing large amounts of money I would find a better exchange rate.
There is also a chemist and small store downstairs which is nice if you need any medications or snacks.
All in all...one of the nicest places I've stayed in that part of the world.

Being raised in karachi, I had a sort of image of this hotel. It was good hotel in a fair price. The hotel is better than most of the DaysInn, travelodge and motel 8 hotels in north america.
they have internet available, but not very stable, good for email checking though.
Service is okay, cleaning is average from a western standard but above average from a pakistani standard.
They have their own generators in case of no electric power, which is quite often.
Don't rely on breakfast too much, but dining is better.
Centrally located so you have that traffic humming all the time.
It is good though for the discounted price we managed.

I stayed with my family at this hotel for seven nights in August 2006 and it was six nights too long. Im not normally fussy and despite having travelled extensively in the UK(where i live) and abroad Ive never complained about anything at a hotel before. The room we were given (despite being executive suite) was dirty. The bathroom hadnt been cleaned in a long time, the floors and windows in the room were dirty. there was no hot water and despite being told that the hotel had electricity generators if the power supply was cut we were left in darkness for hours on end. Of course that meant the air conditioning didnt work either and we were roasting. The attitude of the staff was self righteous and arrogant. They really couldnt care less whether we were comforatble or not. I was given another room which was better but to be honest I didnt enjoy the rest of my stay because of the attitude of the staff. It is also expensive compared to similar hotels in Europe and the USA. They have matched the price to quality hotels but not the service or attitude.Since this experience friends have told me the Days Inn in Karachi is a great place to stay. Thats where Ill be going next time around. Thank fully this experience didn't put me off going back to Karachi.
