“Thali for me”
Reviewed November 16, 2012

After having eaten tons of meats everyday, we decided we needed to get fibre and so we headed to Raj Rasoi. Quiet (teill the kityy part came in) with excellent service and GOOD yummy food. We had the thali which was value for money and made us resolve to include more veggies in our other meals.

Rotary Club of Karachi Universal with their spouses had family evening at Raj Rasoi. The day's Menu sounded good.

The restaurant is in Clifton and only a kilometer from our home. The ambience was good, the waiters were attired in typical Rajasthani Angarkhas and colorful tarbuns. The Gujrati music and insence made the atmospher typical Indian.

Steel Thalis were already placed on the tables. First we were served Farsans (starters) which consisted of Rava Dhokla and Patra with Dhokla Chutney, Red Lassoni Chutney, Achar, Kachumber, Sambharo (pickled cabbage), Papadoms and Chaas (buttermilk) which was devoured by all of us even some of us asked for second helpings.

Then came the main course of Guwar Bhaji (cluster beans), Aloo ki Sabzi (Potato), shakahari Dum Qeema (Mushroom minced), Paneer Kofta Makhani (cheese balls in gravy) and to tantalize the Pakistani taste buds who cannot live without meat, they served Mugh Rajwadia (chicken) with Puri & Phulka. This was followed by Dal Darbari, Karhi and Pease Pulao.

The food was good except for Aloo ki Sabzi, however, frankly, it was far away from Indian food. I had traveled to several states of India and tasted their hundreds of food varieties but it was a far cry from all of that.

The dessert was Raj Basundi which was not even close to the name. The Basundi that I've had in India had creamy texture and yes it was real 'Rabri' which we call it at home. The Masala Chai (Tea) was o.k. and could have been better.

The service was immaculate and you could have as many helpings as you wanted. The price is very reasonable keeping in view the market trend.

Good for once in a while.

“A place very Indian in middle of Pakistan...”
Reviewed July 11, 2012

Located in the heart of the city, in Clifton area is probably the only very Indian restaurant. Started not very long back, is quite a treat atleast for an Indian visiting the city.

The decor is nothing extra ordinary but very Indian and comfortable.

The service is very good - fast, clean and friendly.

The cuisine is Rajasthani and Gujrati (Indian assortment dish from the state of Rajasthan and Gujrat) as they say in the menu - delicious and sumptuous. The Indian vegetarian dish is little tweaked to cater to Pakistan locales by adding a dish of chicken in the assortment.

Very reasonably priced, this place is a must visit....
