First for an Indian to travel to Pakistan is little more than unusual....so it becomes more important how you are being treated and taken care of. Thats where Avari takes all the point of making sure your stay is comfortable and you feel secured.

The service starting from the Airport pick up to check in and concierge all were excellent except house keeping.

First the airport transfers - The hotel has shuttle service frequently for pick up and drop at the airport. They have a counter at the airport itself so there's no chance to miss a transport to the hotel.

Second the safety at the entrance is quite at a high standard.

Third the check in and check out process is fast inspite of all the extra formalities we need to do as Indian.

And then come the surprise and a note of caution....

Make sure you get a room which is renovated and not very old, because after the first night when I got up in the morning my room was filled with smoke from the burning wire inside the ceiling panel.

But it was attended quickly and I was shifted to a better looking room. Yes a better looking room but not upto the mark house keeping. "Turn down" service is not applicable to the house keeping staffs in the higher category rooms while its applicable for the base category rooms. It feels little frustrated to see your bed stuffed with all the cushion and fancy looking runners instead of being made up after a long day of work.

Rooms are big enough and well equipped but not quite as you can hear every bit of noise from the hall way. Also funny part is house keeping guys work even in the evening to clean up the hallway and rooms which creats lots of noise.

Hotel has free wifi but very poor strength.

The hotel has more than one option of restaurants and a lobby level pastry shop.

The coffee shop is well attended with courteous staffs, good breakfast. Though you might find a soiled plate in the main stack of plate...but probably thats one in a million.

So keeping in mind the options available and the service extended to make you comfortable, Avari will be the option next time too...

Room Tip: Facing the front courtyard and renovated ones.

If you're lured by business or pleasure to Lahore Pakistan, the only place to stay in the Avari Hotel. The hotel's security made Baghdad's "Green Zone" look inadequate. Razor wire, guards with automatic weapons, auto chemical sniffers, high ramp barriers, gates and airport-type security at the door.... And that was just to get into the hotel compound.

The hotel rooms and staff were exceptional. Very clean and very adequate. After a long day it was hard to sleep late when the muezzin made his first "call to prayer" at 5AM. And in case you didn't get the message, another four followed during the day. However, that's not a hotel problem.

The hotel also featured a concierge service that can arrange for security drivers, guides and other help.

If Lahore is a necessity, really a necessity, then the Avari is a must.

Room Tip: Ask to face the outdoor pool, not the road.

Stayed in the club room 358 which was very well appointed but could have been bigger. It was very quiet and peaceful. check in was quick and professional. The Hotel is amazingly clean and set in beautiful gardens. Club lounge on 3rd floor well set out and amazing service. All staff were very friendly and went out of their way to help and smile, with no expectation of tips. Internet wifi free and fast. Restaurants and food top class. Make sure you dine out under the stars at the Tollington which has a great buffet of Pakistani food and impeccable service - very cheap at 900 rupees which is about $9 Australian dollars. Security is great and you can do half day tours with guides from pakastani tourist board of the city for only $24 Australian dollars. Would definitely come here again.

The best feature of the Avari is undoubtedly the lounge of the third floor which is a great place to relax with a cup of tea and some snacks.

The rooms are small, a little dark and in need of refurbishment.

The check in was slow with only one clerk sitting at a desk who continued an extensive telephone conversation while I stood and waited.

Breakfast was a complete scrum. The food is OK but quite a jostling queue in a constrained space to be served and I wish they would fix the juice dispensers which are too low for the glasses they use and which have taps which don't easily switch off.

As with many places in Pakistan there is an insufficient divide between smoking and non-smoking at the restaurant and there are not enough tables. Breakfasting alone, I was very surprised to find three middle eastern gentlemen had joined me at my table when I came back from the buffet, despite my coffee, juice and newspaper occupying the table. The hotel staff don't help guests find a table and so perhaps not a surprise.

What was a surprise was the rate I was quoted for a hotel car for a short journey. When I complained, however, the rate was immediately halved.

Although it's a decent hotel the suites are a little dated and need upgrading. As with many hotels they become worn very quickly. Not the best offer around and will revert to my usual one next time.

Stayed in the Avari several times over the last few years and each time have been impressed. Security is very good, which unfortunately is an important factor when staying in Pakistan. Food is excellent, lots of choice. The rooms are a good size, could be a touch bigger. Also Avari does not suffer from the regular city wide power cuts thanks to their own generator. The bathrooms are good, with a decent power shower. Room service is excellent, watch out for housekeeping as they are very keen in the mornings to get into your room. I kept the do not disturb sign on the door which did the trick.

One letdown - the air conditioning in the rooms. In the winter months (from November to February) they turn off the air conditioning in the rooms. Maybe for locals having the temperature at 26c indoors is ok, but for those of us from Europe that's a bit too warm. As the windows can't be opened because of mosquitos this leads to the air becoming a bit stale. Management please fix this! Rant over!

On the room prices, they are high in terms of local prices, when booking phone and demand a discount to the advertised rate, that's never failed me before.
