“A Tower for the Queen”

Reviewed August 23, 2013

The Cunningham Clocktower dating back to the year 1900 (Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria) lies only barely 200 metres from the eastern side of Chowk Yadgar, where Karimpura Bazar forks off from big Bazar Kalan Bazar Road. Surrounded by many small provisional shops, it makes a good place to stop for a cold drink - if you can bear the intense smell of fish being sold here. Look out for the daily wage labourers sitting around the base of Cunningham Clocktower with their gear, and waiting for a job. If you follow the lane running to the left of the Tower, there are many small shops selling clothes and kitchen related stuff. Big (and mostly helplessly congested) Kalan Bazar Road runs on the right side, ending up at Ghor Katri (an old Karavanserai). Watch out on both sides of this street for many old merchant's houses, in a variying state of decay. All in all a nice stroll though nothing to get overly excited about.
