“I have stayed in worse hotels..”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 14, 2012

At the time we booked a Superior Room at this Hotel, we did so with some trepidation having read TA reviews. Wife and I were very pleasantly surprised. It is in a good location, it is not down a dark alley as some have suggested, and it is not dark and dingy. From the front door staff to reception to the cleaners, everyone has a smile and one is made to feel right at home. The fact that it has no lift did not worry us - the staff will carry your heavy bags with no complaint. By the way, The Strand in Yangon only has one VERY slow lift resulting in one having to use stairs so if that is all you have to complain about then you are hard to please. We did not have much of a view out of our window but we had NO view at The Strand and this Hotel was about one quarter of the price of The Strand! The breakfasts were good, the room size was adequate, good airconditioning, free wifi in the lobby, and a pool to have a quick dip at the end of a hot day. I felt this Hotel was good value for money and I really have to query what some people expect when paying such modest room rates.

The Mandalay City Hotel is located in a central though not particularly attractive spot of town (but then - Mandalay is also not the most attractive of all cities. It is in a quiet location, not immediately at the street.
Staff is very friendly. Rooms are small but clean. The breakfast is sufficient. The pool is nice and refreshing, though a few anti-mosquito spirals would be helpful. Internet is painfully slow.
Overall, a nice hotel to stay in. Not as overpriced as Sedona and also in a more lively part of town.

This hotel is nothing fancy, and by next year you will not remember it, but it does its job: it's conveniently located, the room is good-sized and the bathroom is clean. The air conditioner is new and worked well. The breakfast offers many choices, including cereal and yoghurt (not easy to find in Burma) as well as Asian dishes and fresh fruit. The staff is well-trained, helpful and friendly.
Things that could be better: there is no elevator, the wi-fi only works in the lobby and was about the slowest we experienced in Burma, and there usually was a strong Chinese food smell in the lobby.
Something that will make you love this hotel: there is a great pool that you will appreciate after a long day of sightseeing.

It's certainly not perfect but I would probably go back.

As indicated by other reviewers this is not a particularly fantastic hotel. It is however clean, does do a good breakfast buffet and the staff are friendly.

It has a great pool area, (which strangely is accessed via the dining room) which is very welcomed after a long day touring the sites of Mandalay.

If you need to get up early to catch a flight then the morning call to prayer by the Muezzin from the Mosque next door to the hotel will ensure you do not miss your flight.

We stayed at this hotel for one night due to a cancelled flight. It is convenient to explore Mandalay city centre. It is tucked away from the noise of traffic and our room, without any kind of pleasing view, was quiet if basic in its amenities. There is no lift, wifi does not really work and the breakfast was pretty basic. If you are stuck in Mandalay the hotel is acceptable but there are better ones.

I stayed for two nights in this central Mandalay hotel with some friends during a mini-tour of Myanmar. It's located right at the back of a very busy street, in a town that at first worringly reminded us of a bad and provincial copy od Bangkok.
Its position is tricky, because as it seems to be quiet (a 80/100 yards long alley separates it from the busy road), the five o'clock sudden wake-up call by the Muezzin from the next door Mosque is a clear and present call back to reality. Not the best, especially during a long a tiring tour of Myanmar, where every moment of sleep is needed to appreciate yet another beauty of this unspoilt and wonderful country the next day.
The staff is very kind and speaks excellent English, rooms are simple but clean.
The total absence of lifts could be a problem for guests with large suitcases, staying in the upper floors.
The lobby area is in need of a well desserved upgrade, the three or four bamboo chairs and sofas available are pretty uncomfortable.
The restaurants offers a buffet breakfast which is OK and a decent dinner option.
If I was to go back to Mandalay for any reason, I would probably choose to stay somewhere else.

It located a few block away from the moat with nice garden and (short) swimming pool. The room are nice and quite at night.

Beef burger is super (my favorite from their hotel), but their Asian food is so so. Breakfast is almost the same for the whole week, but nice fruit and food.

Internet is only (low connection) access in lobby. Choose the room next to their office, I think 104 which you can get best internet connection (compare to access it at lobby).

Staffs are helpful and I almost rate them nearly excellent. Some of them seem too western friendly.

There is a small street food shop call Karawaik which you can have bean rice and local fried chicken and fruit juice.

My favorite place is hotel meeting room next to swimming pool.

Room Tip: Choose the room next to their office, I think 104 which you can get best internet connection (compar...
