we climbed in the midday, were expecting spectacular views but nothing like this.. the only great thing we meet some "kiwi" people there we spend rest of the afternoon with evening beer with them, and made friends... the hill - neither great view nor the buddhas..
we went from the east south side, it was fro free theonly fee for the photos - 1000 kyats but not worth... climing up slowly takes about 45 minutes

Really lovely views and you get to appreciate how nice Mandalay and surrounding areas looks from a height. I just hope it doesn't get transformed into a Bangkok lookalike with ubiquitous matchbox tower blocks

we went to the top of the hill in the back of a truck. I think our driver had a death wish! The view and the sunset from the pagoda was wonderful. I found looking down onto the Irrawaddy River and Mandalay very touching and romantic. I loved it so much we did it again the following nigh. This time in a taxi.

The Mandalay Hill is the most scenic of pagodas in the city. It provides exotic view of the city as well as sun set if you go in the evening at sun set hour. We had gone at about 0530pm in the first week of October and had a great experience.
Seniors and physically unwell people need not worry about climbing the hill, as it has a very modern elevator for up and down trip, and it is free.

To be on the hill, only 2 route
First one is by walking the stairway for 1100 steps
The second is to hire the local van to drive you up and wait then pick you down.
The road is such a rough terrain and has a lot of sharp curve.
From the parking you have to take off the shoes and use the escalators or elevators.
Sun set on Irrawaddy river is deeply impressive.
The panoramic view of Mandalay can be seen here
